Valerie Harper, Lauren Holly, Cameron Bancroft and Lucie Guest Star in the UP Original Movie: The Town That Came A-Courtin’

Based on Novel by Best-Selling Author and
Syndicated Columnist Ronda Rich

Production began this week in Vancouver on UP’s Original Movie The Town That Came A-Courtin’, starring Valerie Harper (“Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Rhoda”), Lauren Holly (“NCIS,” “Motive”), Cameron Bancroft (“24,” “Beverly Hills: 90210”) and Lucie Guest (“Heath Nutz,” “Blackstone”). The film is produced by Odyssey Media Inc. and directed by David Winning (“XIII: The Series,” “Andromeda”). The movie is based on best-selling author and syndicated columnist Ronda Rich’s novel and loosely based on an experience she had during a book tour. Sheryl J. Anderson (“Charmed”) wrote the adapted script. The Town That Came A-Courtin’ will make its world television premiere on UP in January 2014.

Abby Houston (Lauren Holly) is a smart, beautiful, successful author and fiercely independent Southern woman. When we meet her, she is curiously being kept captive in a remote cabin in the woods by an obsessed fan. Days earlier, Abby and her publicist Jamie (Lucie Guest) were visiting the lovely town of Bliss, Mississippi on her most recent book tour. The town of Bliss, local Magnolia Blossom B&B owner Charlotte (Valerie Harper) and their well-meaning prayer chain have big plans for her – as the perfect match for their widowed Mayor Spencer Alexander (Cameron Bancroft), a single dad of two. A series of collisions, several bouquets and numerous good words later, Abby relents to having dinner with Spencer, and finds a handsome, earnest man. Eagerly encouraged by the entire town, they embark on a whirlwind, public romance. But just as they are about to share a first kiss, Spencer is reminded of his late wife and abruptly pulls back. Hurt and sad, Abby is determined to leave Bliss behind, only to find her obsessed fan waiting. With phones buzzing and the town mobilized, what happens next will determine her future.

A Tribute to Cory Monteith

The Promotion People - Cory Monteith

Our hearts go out to Cory Monteith’s family and friends.

We were lucky enough to work with Cory as his publicist from 2007 to 2009, while he was on his road to “Glee”.

Cory is one of the nicest people that anyone could ever meet. The last time we saw Cory from a far was with Richard Branson in Vancouver at a Board of Trade Luncheon. Of all people in the world, Richard Branson chose Cory to be his Virgin Unite Ambassador. Cory also supports Project Limelight for homeless youth in Vancouver to give them the chance to discover their strengths and potential through the arts.

Cory was a talent of course, but also a caring, lovely man who will be greatly missed. He had love and respect from everyone who knew him. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and Lea Michele. Cory was blessed with his long time agent Elena Kirschner, who guided Cory’s career from the beginning. We know how much they care for each other.

From the first time we meet Cory, we knew that he had a very successful career as an actor ahead of him. We were with Cory when he walked his very first Red Carpet at the Vancouver International Film Festival. It turned out to be the first of many. After an interview with the Biography Channel early on in his career, the reporter told us that Cory was one of the most amazing interviews that she had ever experienced. He was so honest about his struggles to succeed.

Cory drove to Los Angeles to audition for “Glee”. He had to pull into roadside rest stations to conduct press interviews along the way. We were so excited when Cory called to tell us that he had booked his role as Finn Hudson on the new Fox hit series.

The Promotion People - Cory Monteith - Brothers & Sisters

Cory has had a US publicist since the explosion in popularity of “Glee”, so we were thrilled when we could work with him again at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival, while promoting Carl Bessai’s Feature Film “Sisters & Brothers”, with co-stars Dustin Milligan, Amanda Crew, Gabrielle Miller, Ben Ratner, Gabrielle Rose, Camille Sullivan, Tom Scholte, Jay Brazeau, Kacey Rohl, Ali Liebert, Monica Delain and Beatrice King; all past/present clients. It was a very special time and Cory was genuinely happy to see me and gave me a huge hug. One I will always remember.

We join Cory’s family, friends, the cast of ”Glee”, actors, media and millions of fans everywhere when we say:

“Cory you will be missed. You left us all far too soon.”

Actor Agam Darshi’s Role in “Crimes of Mike Recket” Garners Industry Acclaim with Latest Leo-Award Nomination

The Promotion People Agam Darshi

Canadian actor/director and all-around talent Agam Darshi has been nominated for a Best Supporting Performance by a Female in a Motion Picture award at the 2013 Leo Awards (which take place June 7th & 8th, 2013). The nomination for Agam came from her performance in the feature “Crimes of Mike Recket”. It’s been an exciting year for the in-demand actress, who among her other high profile recent appearances and new roles, directed her first film (which she also wrote). She worked alongside some of the country’s top leading ladies (Crystal Lowe and Sandy Sidhu, who produced the project) to bring the BravoFact short film “Fade Out” to life. She will also be seen this fall in the new CTV series “Played”, currently in production.

Agam is thrilled to again be nominated at the Leo’s (which honour the best in British Columbia’s television and film), but she is no stranger to industry nods: She has been nominated for 2 Constellation Awards for her role on “Sanctuary”, a Canadian Comedy Award for Best Ensemble for her role on “Dan for Mayor”, and previously for a Leo Award for Best Supporting Actress in the film “Excited”.

The Promotion People Agam Darshi

The buzzed-about actor is currently in Toronto shooting “Played”, a new police drama series which airs on CTV this fall. “Played” follows an elite undercover police unit set up to infiltrate otherwise impenetrable criminal worlds. These cops (led by Deception’s Vincent Walsh) perform high-wire acts, nerve-wracking confidence games or “plays”. Agam’s character’s greatest assets: blunt honesty and an effortless skill with technology.

The Promotion People Agam Darshi

Agam’s directorial debut in “Fade Out” gave her a chance to show her talent behind the camera. The nine-minute film (also written by Agam) stars Ona Grauer, Adrian Holmes, Chelah Horsdal and David Lewis. It follows an aging actress, who is desperate to keep herself together on the night of her movie premiere.

Agam’s other notable credits include a principal role as Aparna in the blockbuster film “2012”, a recurring role on “The L Word”, a lead in “Haunting on Soroity Row” (alongside Gossip Gil’s Leighton Meester), as well as roles on “Snakes on a Plane” and “Final Destination 3”.

Agam, who was born in England, has been raised all over Canada. She has lived in Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary, and Vancouver. She now splits her time between there and Los Angeles. She has been writing and producing films since her graduation from the Studio 58 Film Arts program at Langara College—and has been on a steady rise in the industry, with fans from around the globe.

Tammy Gillis Returns to Television Screens Across North America With Roles in ABC’s New Series “Motive” and the Award Winning “Less Than Kind”

The Promotion People Tammy Gillis

Acclaimed Canadian actress Tammy Gillis guest-stars in an episode of the new television series “Motive”, set to premiere on ABC on May 23rd, 2013. Tammy’s performance received rave reviews when her episode (entitled “Detour”) aired in Canada. “Detour” will air this summer on ABC. “Motive” has become a quick hit; it was recently being picked up by CTV for a second season, and was recently acquired by Universal Channel UK. The buzzed-about series stars Kristin Lehman, Louis Ferreira, Brendan Penny, Roger Cross and Lauren Holly.

The Promotion People Tammy Gillis

Tammy will also be returning to her hilarious recurring role for the fourth and last season in the multiple Canadian Screen Award winning, television series “Less Than Kind”. The final season of this fan favorite show premieres on June 2nd, 2013 in a 2-episode event. Tammy will be appearing in the premiere event, in the episode titled “Girl Trouble”. The original comedy series airs on DirectTV and HBO Canada. The role has Tammy starring as Barbara, a new mother and trophy wife to Jack. Barbara is young, pretty and full of life—maybe a little too full of life with her Jekyll and Hyde personality.

The Promotion People Tammy Gillis

Capturing the attention of Bruce Springsteen in the seventies at a jam session in New Jersey, David’s career as a musician kicked off at the young age of seventeen. An original member of Bruce Springsteens’ beloved E Street Band, David was invited to join a new band Bruce was forming. The group recorded three albums together and toured the country before David decided it was time to part ways.

David left the band to form his own group “Tone”, where he would showcase his abilities as not only a sensational musician, but as an equally talented composer, producer and synthesist. David recorded multiple albums with Tone and the accomplishments of these albums led him to become one of the most talented and sought-after keyboardists in the industry.

The notable artist has since worked and toured with musicians including Eric Clapton, Seal, Aretha Franklin, Santana, Jeff Beck, Yousou Ndour, Natalie Merchant and many others. David has performed on more than fifty albums since his 1973 debut album “Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.” with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The versatility of his sensational career has made it difficult to categorize his music. David, however, considers his art a mixture of harmony and melody from the jazz and classical traditions combined with rhythms from the rock and R&B traditions. David is considered by many as a “musician’s musician”.

In celebration of Sting’s sixtieth birthday David re-united with Bruce Springsteen and joined other musicians including Billy Joel, Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Rufus Wainwright and Will.I.Am to perform some of Stings most recognizable songs at New York’s Beacon Theatre.

David has also been invited by the legendary jazz artist Jack Dejohnette to perform with him at the Woodstock Percussion Festival on September 7th in Woodstock. New York.

It can often be difficult to center oneself when surrounded by the stress and chaos of being an artist. Yet, somehow, David always manages to find his center and inner peace practicing yoga and mediation to keep him grounded.

When he finds time, David is in his studio recording his tenth solo album. For David’s complete discography please visit: davidsancious.com/discography
