WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A GROUP OF FILM SCHOOL DROP OUTS AND ONE EGO-MANIACAL DIRECTOR DECIDE TO MAKE A MOVIE, ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL SHOOTINGS?

“Shooting the Musical” to screen at the Rio Theatre June 29TH and will be released on VOD on July 14th across Canada

IndustryWorks Studios is releasing the most talked-about (or will be), controversial (definitely), laugh-out-loud (because you can’t help it) movie to come out of Canada since ‘Fubar’.

The mockumentary-style comedy “Shooting the Musical” made its first appearance to audiences at the Whistler Film festival, with rave reviews and a large following of fans that responded to the daring thematic and raw humor so rare in independent films coming out of North America, in this case, for obvious reasons.

Director Joel Ashton McCarthy, best known for his award-winning documentary Taking My Parents To Burning Man made “Shooting The Musical” with the aid of over 100 of his film school students and friends. A labor of love and a risky subject matter that may just put this indie film director on the road to success.

The premise is simple, recent film school grads resurrect a script written by their talented, fallen friend Max (Lee Shorten) as an homage to him and his adoring fans. But when the un-talented, crude, rude and completely self-absorbed Adam (Bruce Novakowski) decides to leverage the suicide of his friend for his own opportunity he re-writes the script to become a musical about a high school shooting.

The result is a comedic critic of some of societies values and its result on youth mentality. It will make you laugh out loud but it will also make you think.

Audiences loved it, proven by festival win after festival win and the recent accolade from the Toronto Film Review chosen on the awesome list of “100 best Canadian Films” by Paul Williams. On Thursday June 29th, 2017 at 9pm, IndustryWorks Studios will release the film for a Special Engagement at The Rio theatre in Vancouver. Cast and crew will be in attendance. Buy your tickets at riotheatre.ca/movie/shooting-the-musical where you can also buy a ‘super-ticket’ which includes the VOD release and download-to-own this bad boy for life.

IndustryWorks will also be releasing the movie across Canada on VOD (iTunes and Vimeo) on July 14th, 2017 (pre-buy it on July 1st, 2017).

“It is not only crude, shocking and offensive, but it is utterly and completely hilarious.” – vancitybuzz

“it’s rare that we see a project this ballsy and ambitious coming out of homegrown independent cinema” – onemovieourviews

“One of the most outrageous, offensive and laugh-out-loud comedies ever made”. – The Film Corner

Orphaned Bear Cubs Get a Second Chance in Animal Planet’s Touching New Original Canadian Series WILD BEAR RESCUE, Beginning June 23

– Filled with suspense, humour, and irresistible cuteness, the new unscripted Canadian series follows life at the Langen family’s unique B.C. wildlife shelter, where 40 black bear cub orphans are preparing for re-release into the wild –

Animal Planet’s new 12-part original Canadian series WILD BEAR RESCUE takes viewers to Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter in beautiful British Columbia, where Angelika and Peter Langen care for at-risk black bear cubs as they prepare for a second chance at life in the wild. Airing Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT beginning June 23 on Animal Planet and produced by Omnifilm Entertainment (JADE FEVER), the unique, homegrown series follows the family-run operation filled to the brim with a record 40 orphaned black bear cubs.

“We are excited to share the touching stories and genuine heroism behind WILD BEAR RESCUE,” said Ken MacDonald, Vice-President and General Manager, Discovery Networks. “Equal parts heartwarming and humorous, this series – produced exclusively for Animal Planet audiences – is sure to have viewers falling in love with the Langen family and their adorable bear cubs.”

(L-R:) Hungry cubs waiting to be fed by Angelika Langen; Langen cares for an injured black bear cub; a hungry black bear cub at feeding time.

Throughout the season, viewers witness heartwarming moments of a passionate “Mama Bear”, Angelika, and her husband Peter, who run the world’s only licensed grizzly bear rehab program. Together with their son Michael, daughter Tanja, son-in-law Shawn, and a few dedicated volunteers, WILD BEAR RESCUE captures the Langens working to save and care for the many sick, starving, and injured orphan cubs as they prepare to release them as strong and healthy yearlings in remote sites across British Columbia each year.

Black bear cubs are often orphaned when their mothers are struck by vehicles or poached by hunters, and the Langens’ home is full with more bears in their care than ever before. All 40 cubs exhibit distinct personalities and varying health needs, creating a huge challenge for the Langens to manage when the shelter becomes short-staffed and overcrowded.

WILD BEAR RESCUE is produced by Omnifilm Entertainment in association with Animal Planet. Executive Producers are Gabriela Schonbach and Michael Chechik. Series producers are David Gullason and Brad Quenville. For Animal Planet, Heather Williamson is Executive Producer. Ken MacDonald is Vice-President and General Manager, Discovery Networks. Tracey Pearce is President, Distribution and Pay, Bell Media.

Tammy Gillis co-stars in Hallmark Channel’s Wedding Bells, premiering Friday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET with Danica McKellar, Kavan Smith and Bruce Boxleitner

Tammy Gillis - Jeff Reyes Photography 2Tammy is nominated for a Leo Award for her role in UPTV’s Ties That Bind

Tammy Gillis is becoming a fast favorite on the Hallmark Channel with her upcoming co-starring role on Wedding Bells, premiering Friday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET. Tammy is starring along side Danica McKellar (The Wonder Years), Kavan Smith (When Calls the Heart) and Bruce Boxleitner (Cedar Cove). Molly Quinn (Dancia McKellar) is a young New York fashion designer who would rather be single than risk being hurt by love. As she struggles to create a new fashion line, Molly’s socialite best friend, Amy (Tammy Gillis), and her fiancé, James (Christopher Russell), invite her to dinner. At a trendy restaurant, Molly meets handsome chef Nick Turner (Kavan Smith), a confirmed bachelor, who also believes that love only leads to heartache. Through a series of emotional wedding-related events, the two are forced to work together -and inevitably- the opposites attract, despite themselves.

Tammy is also nominated for a Leo Award for Best Guest Performance in UP TV’s TIES THAT BIND for her guest-starring role alongside Jason Priestley. Tammy plays a former junkie and massage therapist, Carla, who is now happily married to a conservative guy she met on Christian Harmony; she’s got the house with the picket fence and has carefully crossed her sketchy side off of her resume. www.LeoAwards.com

unnamedOn the horizon for Tammy, set-to-be-released later this year is a project she’s very proud of: a lead role in the feature film MENORCA that she traveled to Spain and Winnipeg to film. Menorca is a feature film directed and written by John Barnard of Farpoint Films. Tammy plays a hedonistic soccer mom who indulges in her fantasy world, breaking away entirely from her family and life of motherhood. As she embarks on a journey through bad decision-making, she comes to a conclusion to the singularity of her life purpose. She needs to win back her son’s affection.

Tammy is widely recognized for her multitude of film and television appearances. In a challenging role Tammy played a profound character in Signed Sealed Delivered: Impossible Dream. Her character is based on the real story of the Band of Sisters, an ultra-secret Joint Special Operations Command – which sent female soldiers in the field to go out on combat missions alongside the Rangers. Tammy’s role depicts a female U.S. soldier in the special ops unit who is held captive in Afghanistan. In this movie, Tammy embodies the strength and courage of her character that is needed for survival, while also being able to portray the compassion found in human nature even under such difficult circumstances. This role displays the diversity and talent of Tammy’s acting. http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/23/opinions/lemmon-band-of-sisters-special-ops/

13320845_10157492841780131_1370881032421606936_oAlso on the Hallmark Channel, Tammy had a lead role in one of the network’s most highly rated movies, Unleashing Mr. Darcy. In this modern day spin on “Pride & Prejudice”, Tammy starred along with Cindy Busby, Ryan Paevey and Frances Fischer. Tammy plays the lead role of Jenna Scott, an older and endearing sister to the female heroine, played by Cindy Busby. Tammy’s character unexpectedly finds herself meeting love at first sight.

Tammy’s directorial debut came earlier this year for the web series THE SUPPORT GROUP, which she also produced and acted in. The original comedy web series follows three unlikely friends, each facing their own challenges and coming together to save their beloved support group. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUDm2tEohHSBaZYZHvtKlfg

13323205_10157492844195131_5803697634001694555_oThis exceptionally talented actress has over 50 credits to her name and has made TV guest appearances on Motive (CTV/ABC), Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce (Bravo), Supernatural (CW), Lost Girl (Showcase), Blue Mountain State (Spike TV), Endgame (Showcase), and many more.  She has recurred on the critically acclaimed award winning HBO Canada series Less Than Kind, jPod (CBC) and Signed Sealed Delivered (Hallmark).  Additional work in which Tammy has appeared includes the feature films White Noise 2, Shooter, No Men Beyond This Point, and The Pinocchio Project, as well as leading roles in A Novel Romance (Hallmark), and Stolen from the Womb (Lifetime).

Divvying up her time between Vancouver, the east coast of Canada and Los Angeles, Tammy is a rising star who brings years of entertainment industry experience to the table. A well-respected member of the community, she served as a jury member for the Canadian Screen Awards this past year.  Tammy also volunteered as a mentor in the 2015 and current 2016 WIFTV actor mentorship program.

Risk pays off for international actor Al Miro, nominated for a 2016 Leo Award for his lead role in “Daddy’s Boy”

Headshot2016Miro is thrilled to be part of a project creating a larger conversation about equality and diversity in film

Al Miro has honed his craft in some of the most exciting cities in the world, and is now being recognized by his home province with a Leo Award nomination for his starring role as Max in the festival circuit gem “Daddy’s Boy”. The film follows four young men as they leave boyhood behind and shed more than just their clothes and inhibitions, in a movie experience described as honest, intimate and emotional. Miro’s Max is a young, gay adult video star struggling with his sexuality.

“This is probably the riskiest and edgiest role I have ever taken on,” says Miro. “I’ve often played characters that are emotionally vulnerable, but in Daddy’s Boy I also had to be sexually vulnerable in a way that I had never been before.  It’s the scariest project I’ve thrown myself into.  And that’s partly why I couldn’t say no to it.  As an actor I want to take risks.  I want to take on roles that frighten and challenge me.”

The risk paid off, with his industry peers giving Al a nod for Best Supporting Performance by a Male in a Motion Picture. But, this film is much more than just a movie role for Miro, who says, “This project is not just a movie but also part of a movement. With an ethnically diverse cast and characters of various sexual orientations it breaks down barriers and gives a fresh and truthful vision of modern America. With the growing movement for diversity in film, working on this project makes me feel part of this incredible step towards equality and acceptance in the industry.”

AL MAX and MANUEL DBThe festival slate is brimming for “Daddy’s Boy”, following its premiere at Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, and a screening in Miami at the MiFo LGBT Film Festival. Multi-talented, multi-lingual pop-artist, actor and model Elisabetta Fantone adds motherhood to her list of growing roles

untitled-6893The renowned multifaceted performer is tackling her most important project yet, with the anticipation of her first child in July

The ever engaging artist/actor Elisabetta Fantone has been garnering acclaim worldwide from her various art, film and television projects. Now, Elisabetta is preparing for the most important role she has tacked to-date, as she prepares for the arrival of her first child in July. Elisabetta’s work was most recently featured in her GOING POP exhibit, which was displayed at the Lacey Contemporary Gallery in London earlier this spring. This latest show comes on the heels of a well-publicized tour of her artwork across North America, with highlights including The Thompson Landry Gallery in Toronto during TIFF, Calvin Charles Gallery in Scottsdale, Latitude Gallery in Calgary, and the Myra Galleries in Miami.

Elisabetta’s art reached new heights, literally, with one of her largest creations; a mural she painted for Art Basel in Miami. The piece, titled ‘Crimes Against Art’ features the portraits of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol posing for their fictional mugshots. The mural is located at 227 NW 26th Street in Miami (Wynwood). Last year, Elisabetta painted the widely revered mural titled ‘The Affair”, featuring the portraits of the Kennedys and Marilyn Monroe. ‘The Affair’ was later featured in a Bacardi commercial. You can view Elisabetta’s variety of art here: elisabettafantoneart.com.

Elisabetta’s unique approach to recreating images of iconic figures is widely popular, and the portraits are often acknowledged by the subject of her pieces!

CalvinCharlesGallery5The Italian-Canadian multi-talent has accomplished countless artistic endeavors, including notable credits in the realm of film and television, modeling, music, painting and literature. A highlight of her productions include: the role of Marta in the Golden Globe Award winning film “Big Eyes” directed by Tim Burton, the noir-mystery feature “Havana 57”, and a lead role in the feature “My Name is Sandy”, which screened at the Cannes Film Festival. And, of course, the role that changed it all for Elisabetta, the Canadian TV series “Loft Story”, which gained her notoriety as a break out star in front of the camera. Since then, her remarkable versatility as an actor has allowed her to successfully play roles ranging from light comedy to gritty drama in both English and French productions.

Elisabetta3-1 (531x800)When not on set, or writing (her first book, entitled “Journal intime d’une Lofteuse” and the accompanying CD were recently released), she is giving her followers a peek at how she makes her art with time-lapse videos demonstrating the creative process that goes into the creation of her innovative pieces. You can see her videos on YouTube on her channel:OfficialElisabetta.

With her acting projects on the continual rise, and a painting career that is more in-demand than ever, with pieces in galleries and private collections across the world, Elisabetta isn’t slowing down anytime soon. And, with the addition of a new role this summer, Elisabetta will be tackling her greatest personal project: motherhood. The healthy living enthusiast is planning on having a natural water birth, and is preparing for the natural birth with a hypnobirthing class next month. She has continued with a well-balanced plant based diet throughout her pregnancy (not always easy when around a tempting craft services table!), and her and her husband plan on raising their child has a vegetarian as well.

Elisabetta has balanced her pregnancy, mind and body wellness, and a busy art and film production schedule, while continuing to impress those around her in all facets of work and life.

Elisabetta is available for interviews and photographs upon request.

Music a Teen will Travel the World to Hear Brian Tyler Live: Film Music for Stars, Cars & Superheroes

092915_VANCOUVER_PHOTOGRAPHER_000GG_1024Vancouver Sixteen year old musician Logan Jones is on his way to London UK this weekend to hear composer Brian Tyler conduct the Philharmonia Orchestra on May 7th

Most parents would never expect their teen to fly across the world to go to a Symphony Music Concert but that is exactly what 16 year old Logan Jones is doing this weekend. Logan is flying from Vancouver Canada to London UK to hear the musician he most admires, “Brian Tyler Live: Film Music for Stars, Cars and Superheroes.” Brian will conduct the Philharmonia Orchestra on Saturday 7 May 2016, 7.30pm Royal Festival Hall in London England.

Interestingly, most teens know and love the music that he is going to catch live – they just don’t know it! Brian Tyler’s films have grossed $ 9.5 billion worldwide making him one of the most recognised and exciting film composers working today. Brian’s music is embedded in feature films including “Furious, “ “Thor,” “Avengers” and “Now You See Me” and the recent feature “Criminal.” Without knowing it, most of us have been swept along the emotional tides of Brian Tyler’s incredible music more than once.

Logan Jones is a musician and composer who can’t wait to hear some of his favorite music live. Logan says, “Teens should be super interested in this music – they love it in the movies they just don’t recognize it yet.”

12970907_1050165701723573_5366515262983506337_oLogan points outs that Brian Tyler is a rock drummer and this feel of energy and rhythm that inspires him.  As the promotion for the concert states: “Step into the fantastical world of superhuman and action adventure with Hollywood composer/conductor Brian Tyler, for an evening of unforgettable film scores from some of the world’s biggest box office movies of all time. Experience the exciting music from Tyler’s most famous scores spanning over 70 films, including the Marvel films, the Fast and Furious films, Star Trek: Enterprise, fan favourites including Children of Dune and game score franchises such as Far Cry, alongside classic film scores that have influenced Tyler.”

Logan says that “Other teenagers should come and experience a full orchestra playing huge music with a rocking rhythm – like in the theater except better, …rock Drums make a good sound – imagine a drum five times the size and instead of a band of five or a backing track of Pop – 100 instruments. I think kids should come an experience it – live, like the movies but better, I am super excited“

Logan is an unusual teen older than his years. A composer himself with his second Album Platinum Grooves on iTunes, Logan sincerely believes that the concert at the Royal Festival Hall on May 7th is a great way for teens and their parents to have a great night out an experience symphony music that all have enjoyed together.  He hopes that the concert will get more teens to appreciate symphony music.
