IndustryWorks Studios is pleased to announce that they will be screening the festival gem feature film The Sun at Midnight at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday, May 17th at 11:30am in Screening Room; Palais H. IndustryWorks Studios acquired the worldwide rights to the film shortly following Berlinale earlier this year.

Hot off a big win for Best Narrative Award, writer/producer/director Kirsten Carthew was presented the Award by Meg Ryan at Geena Davis’ Bentonville Film Festival on May 6th.

Set in the Alaskan Subarctic, The Sun at Midnight tells the story of an unexpected friendship between a hunter obsessed with finding a missing caribou herd and a teenage rebel who gets lost while on the run. In the wake of her mother’s death, Lia (Devery Jacobs), a 16 year-old urban princess, is sent to spend the summer with her Gwich’in grandmother in a small Northern community. Desperate to return to city life, she steals a boat and sets out into the vast Northern wilderness hoping to reach the nearest town. Totally lost, she is discovered by Alfred, a Gwich’in hunter played by Duane Howard (The Revenant), who reluctantly takes her under his wing as he navigates the massive landscape in search of caribou. When Alfred is severely wounded in a bear attack, Lia pushes on and fights to save both of their lives.

Devery Jacobs is a film and television actress, born and raised on the Mohawk reservation of Kahnawà’ke, QC. She is known for her leading role as Aila in the award-winning feature film Rhymes for Young Ghouls (2013), in which she was nominated for Best Actress at the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards. Additional Credits:  Mohawk Girls  Voice work: The Walking Dead: Michonne (2016)The Land of Rock and Gold, and the web series, Cold. Devery Jacobs earned the Borsos Award for best performance at the Whistler Film Festival 2016. “Devery Jacobs has given a pitch perfect performance as the sixteen-year-old protagonist of The Sun at Midnight. She is luminous with every fleeting emotion reflected in her eyes,” says the Whistler Film Festival of her win, awarded by iconic filmmaker Deepa Mehta.

Duane Howard is best known for his role as ‘Elk Dog’, the lead native warrior, acting alongside Tom Hardy and Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio, in 20th Century Fox’s film The Revenant.
