CANDiLAND starring Oscar Nominee Gary Busey, James Clayton and Chelah Horsdal World Premiere screens at the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival in Dubuque, Iowa on April 23, 2016

Candiland still_1adjustedGary Busey and James Clayton will be in attendance for the feature that is nominated for Best World Premiere

Motorcyle Boy Productions and IndustryWorks Pictures are pleased to announce that the feature film CANDiLAND will have their World Premiere at the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival on April 23, 2016 at 4:00. CANDiLAND is based on the novel by Elizabeth Engstrom and will be distributed in North America by IndustryWorks Pictures spring 2016. Produced by Motorcycle Boy and Greendale Productions, CANDiLAND was written and directed by Rusty Nixon. CANDiLAND is nominated for Best World Premiere at the festival. Gary Busey and James Clayton will be in attendance.

CANDiLAND stars Oscar nominee Gary Busey (The Buddy Holly Story), Chelah Horsdal (Arrow, Hell on Wheels) and James Clayton (Foodland). CANDiLAND marks a nuanced departure for Busey, who has been seen as a contestant in reality TV shows such as NBC’S The Apprentice and ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Busey was drawn to the role, finding parallels between his character Arnie and himself and the echoes of the father/son relationship shown in the film familiar. His performance plays earnest and sincere.

CANDiLAND tells the story of intensified mutual attraction to the point of deadly obsession. Peter (James Clayton), a retired and embittered tennis pro, who is estranged from his father Arnie (Gary Busey), decides to leave the solace of his apartment and happens upon Tess (Chelah Horsdal). Tess, a recent vulnerable divorcee, finds Peter’s intensity and attention irresistible. Together they pursue ‘oneness’ and consciously shut out the world, barricading themselves inside Peter’s apartment. A desperate Arnie attempts to liberate the pair from CANDiLAND– but will he make it in time?

Candiland Still_7adjustedGary Busey states “CANDiLAND teaches us to pay attention to the heart of the injured like you haven’t paid attention before.”

Rusty Nixon “”Elizabeth Engstrom’s cult novel has haunted me since I first read it twenty years ago. It was an honor to bring the book to life and to work with such a passionate cast and crew to create an unforgettable film experience.”

The Julien Dubuque International Film Festival acknowledges emerging filmmakers from around the world, with a strong emphasis on discovering new talent, supporting cause-related films and bringing together all elements of filmmaking. Julien Dubuque International Film Festival runs April 21st to April 24 in the heart of Dubuque Iowa.

Screening details:

Saturday, April 23:
Mindframe Theater
3:30 pm red carpet
4:00 pm screening begins
Followed by Q&A
Awards Show 8 pm.

James Clayton Wins Lead Actor Award Of Excellence at The IndieFEST Film Awards for his role in CANDiLAND also starring Gary Busey and Chelah Horsdal

James_Clayton_montage_addtxtJames Clayton has won the prestigious IndieFEST Film Award of Excellence for his lead role of Peter in the upcoming thriller CANDiLAND; also starring Gary Busey and Chelah Horsdal. CANDiLAND is based on the novel by Elizabeth Engstrom and will be distributed in North America by IndustryWorks Pictures spring 2016.

“It is an extreme honor and privilege to be awarded this distinction. This is really a reflection of all the hard work of the crew, cast, and everyone who supported this great film.  I am eternally in debt to my co-leads Gary Busey and Chelah Horsdal who were an inspiration everyday and will no doubt be recognized for their outstanding performances in this film. As well as to the magnetic Elizabeth Engstrom, and of course, our inventive and extraordinary leader, writer/Editor/Director Rusty Nixon.” says James Clayton.

CANDiLAND: Struggling to rebuild their lives, a former tennis star (James Clayton) and a recent divorcee (Chelah Horsdal) decide to isolate themselves from the world in a quest for true “oneness”; as their affair descends into savagery, his father (Gary Busey) must fight to save them before they disappear completely into madness.

James has been building a career of diverse characters and is known for his deep commitment and detailed preparation. The character of Peter marks a new benchmark for James as he lost 55 pounds, shaved his head, and shaved down his front tooth for the role.

James who currently appears in several episodes of Fox TV’s Minority Report also produced and starred in the Sci-Fi/Thriller Down The Line (2014). He also starred in the Caper Comedy Foodland (2011). Clayton began his acting career at the age of sixteen when he booked his first role in K19: The Widowmaker (2001), starring Harrison Ford and directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Since then, he has added an extensive list of versatile characters to his resume. In 2004, James went on to a supporting lead role in the Horror feature Adam and Evil followed by a leading role in the Thriller feature The Bentley Box (2004) and honed his comedic skills while leading in the head-banger Comedy, Blackbridge (2006). On television, James has appeared on the hit CW series Supernatural (2009), Fox’s Fringe (2011), and has appeared as leading roles in multiple commercial campaigns for clients such as Reebok, Suddenlink, Kia, and Telus.

James is also one of the co-managing directors of Motorcycle Boy Productions along side writer/director Rusty Nixon and actor/producer Blaine Anderson. The three produced the psychological thriller Candiland. James and Motorcycle Boy Productions are in the late development stages for the Supernatural Horror film, Residue (2017), written and directed by Rusty Nixon.

Actor Agam Darshi’s Role in “Crimes of Mike Recket” Garners Industry Acclaim with Latest Leo-Award Nomination

The Promotion People Agam Darshi

Canadian actor/director and all-around talent Agam Darshi has been nominated for a Best Supporting Performance by a Female in a Motion Picture award at the 2013 Leo Awards (which take place June 7th & 8th, 2013). The nomination for Agam came from her performance in the feature “Crimes of Mike Recket”. It’s been an exciting year for the in-demand actress, who among her other high profile recent appearances and new roles, directed her first film (which she also wrote). She worked alongside some of the country’s top leading ladies (Crystal Lowe and Sandy Sidhu, who produced the project) to bring the BravoFact short film “Fade Out” to life. She will also be seen this fall in the new CTV series “Played”, currently in production.

Agam is thrilled to again be nominated at the Leo’s (which honour the best in British Columbia’s television and film), but she is no stranger to industry nods: She has been nominated for 2 Constellation Awards for her role on “Sanctuary”, a Canadian Comedy Award for Best Ensemble for her role on “Dan for Mayor”, and previously for a Leo Award for Best Supporting Actress in the film “Excited”.

The Promotion People Agam Darshi

The buzzed-about actor is currently in Toronto shooting “Played”, a new police drama series which airs on CTV this fall. “Played” follows an elite undercover police unit set up to infiltrate otherwise impenetrable criminal worlds. These cops (led by Deception’s Vincent Walsh) perform high-wire acts, nerve-wracking confidence games or “plays”. Agam’s character’s greatest assets: blunt honesty and an effortless skill with technology.

The Promotion People Agam Darshi

Agam’s directorial debut in “Fade Out” gave her a chance to show her talent behind the camera. The nine-minute film (also written by Agam) stars Ona Grauer, Adrian Holmes, Chelah Horsdal and David Lewis. It follows an aging actress, who is desperate to keep herself together on the night of her movie premiere.

Agam’s other notable credits include a principal role as Aparna in the blockbuster film “2012”, a recurring role on “The L Word”, a lead in “Haunting on Soroity Row” (alongside Gossip Gil’s Leighton Meester), as well as roles on “Snakes on a Plane” and “Final Destination 3”.

Agam, who was born in England, has been raised all over Canada. She has lived in Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary, and Vancouver. She now splits her time between there and Los Angeles. She has been writing and producing films since her graduation from the Studio 58 Film Arts program at Langara College—and has been on a steady rise in the industry, with fans from around the globe.
