Fiona Roeske – Isabellas Haus

Direct from her workshops in France, Interior Designer Fiona Roeske establishes Isabella’s Haus as the North American importer of fully restored, authentic and officially certified rare Napoleon III furnishings now available through her online collection.

Isabella’s Haus is a unique online collection of rare Napoleon III French antiques from the mid-1800’s that are either fully restored or are in the process of a full restoration. Along with her colleagues in France, owner Fiona Roeske finds and restores these Napoleon III pieces, which feature spectacular Boulle marquetry and the use of rich bronzes and stunning materials, and brings them to collectors and enthusiasts throughout North America.

The online catalogue at Isabella’s Haus provides access to these one-of-a-kind authentic French Napoleon III antiques, giving collectors and customers the opportunity to transform their homes and businesses with these high-quality, exceptional items of furniture. These rare Napoleon III pieces had previously adorned palaces throughout Europe, and now, adorn the stately homes of clients from Russia to Qatar, London to Beijing.

Isabella’s Haus also has an award-winning interior design team in-house, helmed by Fiona, who is a sought-after interior designer, to help make choosing a conversation piece for your home, adding an invaluable item to your office, or gifting a priceless piece to a loved one, an easy and enjoyable experience.

With a continuously updated catalogue of quality, exclusive pieces, there is always something new to browse on Isabella’s Haus.

Fiona spent much of her youth traveling in Europe with her family, developing her love of European art and architecture. Captivated by the French architecture, design, and culture from the 15th to 19th century, Isabella’s Haus was born. As an interior designer, Fiona was inspired to bring European sensibilities and style to her clients with hand-picked, authentic pieces that now adorn their homes.

Fiona currently divides her time between France and Canada, importing these fabulous authentic historical pieces from chateaus and castles across Europe.

Fiona’s sense of thrill goes beyond finding fine antiques. For 20 years she was a stunt woman in the film industry with over 45 credits to her name, doubling for A-list actors that include Sharon Stone, Charlize Theron, and Uma Thurman, to name a few.  While jumping off rooftops, driving stunt cars and being set on fire was exciting, she found new exhilaration in discovering unique pieces in European castles and French chateaus!

Fiona’s interior design passion hasn’t gone unnoticed. Her penthouse on Vancouver’s harbour front was featured on HGTV’s hit series, “Lofty Ideas”, as well as in The Province newspaper. She has also hosted a TV Travel Show on CTV in Vancouver.

Vancouver Dementia Prevention Centre encourages people to take the first step towards better brain health and fitness.

Chief of Staff Patrick Malone has created the Brain Spa for Home, Business and Corporate Wellness Programs

For immediate release: Vancouver, BC, March 14, 2019 – Vancouver’s Patrick Malone is enthusiastic about introducing Brain Spa fitness to everyone’s radar this week with Brain Awareness Week https://www.dana.org/BAW/March 11 – 17, 2019. It is common for people to spring clean their homes, start a summer fitness routine and get your teeth cleaned yet most people don’t even think about sweeping the cobwebs out of their brain.

To popularize brain fitness Vancouver Dementia Prevention Centre Chief of Staff Patrick Malone has created the Brain Spa for home, business or corporate wellness programs. 20 minute Brain Spa sessions simultaneously combine; Photobiomodulation, Vagus Nerve Stimulation, Molecular Hydrogen Inhalation, Pulsed Electromagnetic Frequency, 40Hz Audio-Visual Encompassment and 300mg of sublingual NAD.

Each of these brain-boosting modalities is extensively peer-reviewed and easily investigated by both the public and the press. “We didn’t invent any of this neurotech, but we believe it’s time the public had easy access to the best tools for brain fitness, packaged in a luxurious spa-like experience,” states Chief of Staff Malone. The Vancouver Dementia Prevention Centre promotes brain fitness with neuro-tech tools and sublingual NAD.

What are the benefits of a detoxifying brain drain, beyond a quicker wit and sharper memory? Brain fitness affects far more than just our mental acuity. Brain fitness directly impacts our daily moods, motivation, motor skills, and appearance. But for every job there’s the right tool; and for too long neuroscientists have kept theirs benched deep inside academia, out of reach to the general public. Everyone from students seeking study support to executives in need of enhanced mental acuity to older people intent on staying bright for life can benefit from Brain Spa Treatments.

The ancillary gain from adopting brain fitness is better eye health. Both the brain and the eye require herculean amounts of energy to function and produce massive oxidative waste. The benefits of improved waste disposal; that’s central to brain fitness are shared by the retina of the eye, which is otherwise vulnerable to macular degeneration.

Fortunately, there is new entrepreneurial ‘stirring of the loins’ in Canadian universities; bringing exciting Neuro-REgenerative treatments and devices into the hands, guts, beds and onto the heads of a public, interested in staying bright for life. Malone is bringing the transition of neurotech from university labs into the hands of the public.

The mission critical at the Vancouver Dementia Prevention Centre is to broadcast the very best brain fitness tools available to the public and embolden Neuro-Texperts to finally take sides, and assist the public – saving them time and money – by separating the most powerful Neuro-REgenative tools and treatments from the least likely to succeed.

In the Canadian battle for cognitive longevity, there will be heroes, cowards, and quislings; but only the bold will cross unto the most honourable side of medical history.

“To be honest” continues Chief Malone, “we were inspired by Terry McBride, who create YYoga because the studios he first went to, lacked amenities and a higher end user experience. That is very similar to where neurotech is today; too much clinic and too little pampering. The Brain Spa sets out to change all that!”

It should come as no surprise that some of the world’s most advanced neurotech is being developed in Canada. In the U.S. getting ‘memory problems’ on your medical records adversely impacts your insurability, and that of your children as well. There are no punitive measures whatsoever applied to brave Canadians who enlist in medical trials intent on winning the battle against age-related dementia and Alzheimer’s. To those participants, we’ll all owe a debt of gratitude.

Patrick Malone is available for speaking engagements and interviews upon request.

Byron has had an exciting journey as a comedian that includes receiving high praise from Simon Cowell as he advanced on ‘Britons Got Talent’. He also received critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Melbourne Comedy Festival. Other memorable moments in his career include performing for the president of Singapore and the time that Dame Judi Dench gave him a $50 dollar tip!  Byron has appeared on stages around the world as a finalist in the San Diego Comedy Fest, semi finalist in the Boston Comedy Fest, and received a 5 star review in the Australian Times for his own man show ‘Guilt Ridden Sociopath’.

When he isn’t appearing on stage making audiences laugh around the world multi-talented Byron has an active acting career having appeared on Netflix’s Riverdale, CW’s Supernatural, ABC’s Once Upon a Time, BBC America’s Dirk’s Gently, Netflix’s Game Over Man, CBS’s Jordon Peele’s Twilight Zoneand Tim BurtonsBig Eyes. Growing up watching SCTV, Kids in the Hall and Saturday Night Live, George Carlin, Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Norm MacDonald is when Byron knew that being a comedian is what he wanted to do. Byron went to an all-Asian high school. As he was different from his classmates as he wasn’t academic and was overweight he got acceptance from his peers by being the class clown.  Feeling that sense of adulation of making the class crack up was a drug that he couldn’t quit.

He first learnt how to be a juggler in a summer school for the arts, from there he built his stage presence and comedy timing chops as a street performer. Byron has performed in 20 different countries doing a comedy, juggling & magic style show. He realized that he wanted to go the avenue of stand up comedy, and hit up any stage he could get on whether it was at home in Vancouver or on the road while street performing. He did stand up on pool tables for bikers in Australia, old folks homes in Scotland, Dance Clubs in New Zealand, to everything in between.  “Comedy is like a science experiment of words. The formula either works or it blows up in your face.  You don’t know until you know though.  The best training is by throwing yourself into the lion’s den and learning from your mistakes,” adds, Byron.

Byron grew up in Vancouver in a home that appreciated the arts. His father is a gold record winning saxophone player who played with the well known Canadian group “The Powder Blues” and opened for ZZ Top, the Who, and Tina Turner.  His mother is an amazing watercolour painter who took after her famous father Toni Onley.

His late Grandfather renowned Canadian Artist and Order of Canada recipient Toni Onley started Canada India Village Aid.  The program raises funds for impoverished villages in India and shortly before his grandfather Toni Onley passed away he asked Bryon to get involved with the charity. He is also involved with The British Columbia Paraplegic Association through the comedy shows  “Laughing Spasms” that is a program that brings laughter to people recovering from severe spinal cord injuries.

Whether Bryon is making people laugh through his comedy routines or appearing on TV series and feature films, entertaining people is in his blood. Byron resides in Vancouver is available for interviews upon request.

‘Never Be Done: The Richard Glen Lett Story’

‘NEVER BE DONE: THE RICHARD GLEN LETT STORY’ IS THE CLOSING FILM AT THE2019 VANCOUVER JUST FOR LAUGHS FILM FESTIVAL ON FEBRUARY 20th, 8:30 PM AT VANCITY THEATRE

This raw documentary follows controversial stand-up comedian Richard Lett’s private struggle of addiction that sabotaged his promising career, lost everything and lived to tell the tale.

Filmmaker Roy Tighe is pleased to announce that the documentary Never Be Done: The Richard Glen Lett Story will screen at the 2019 Vancouver Just For Laughs Film Festival on February 20, at 8:30 pm at Vancity Theatre. The documentary is the closing film of the festival and tells how controversial Vancouver stand-up comedian Richard Lett sabotaged his own promising career, lost everything and lived to tell the tale. Director Roy Tighe’s commitment to presenting Lett’s highest and lowest moments over the past nine years ultimately presents a message of personal redemption, and shines a poignant light on the intensely private struggle of addiction.

Never Be Done: The Richard Glen Lett Storychronicles the seven-year journey of Richard Lett, a once-respected Canadian comedian whose addiction to drugs and alcohol lead to him becoming homeless, estranged from his daughter, and shunned by his community. With no one to turn to, Richard disappeared. He ran away from his problems; he ran away from his responsibilities; he ran away from his life. The documentary had successful screenings at the Whistler Film Festival and took home top prize at the Studio City Film Festival for Best Documentary.

In the summer of 2009, filmmaker Roy Tighe and comedian Richard Lett were ejected from a Vancouver nightclub. Richard started a verbal altercation with the club owner and was promptly told to take his cameraman and leave. Never one to pass up an opportunity, Roy began filming Lett in his day-to-day life and quickly learned that all was not right in the brash comedian’s world. So set in motion the saga of Richard Lett and Never Be Done.

Not merely a tale of one man’s downfall, Never Be Doneis the story of Richard Lett’s struggle to forge a new life in the same environment that brought him down so completely. Filmed with candid intimacy and filled with archival footage and poignant testimonials, Never Be Done is a raw and unflinching documentary about the life and times of Richard Lett, who lost it all and lived to tell the tale.

Director Story

In 2003, I dabbled in the Vancouver stand up comedy circuit, performing and working with other comics. During my small stint at stand up comedy I was aware of Richard Lett due to his infamous reputation on and off stage. I was always intrigued to work with Richard, if the opportunity arose. In 2009, I was introduced to Richard through a mutual friend and fellow comedian. I had been living in Vancouver for 9 years at the time, and had my own reputation for producing comedy content for the web. Richard and I originally met to talk about shooting a live one-man show he was working on. The next night we met at a local comedy club to shoot some stand up footage. That did not happen. We, instead, were ejected from the comedy club. Richard had started a verbal altercation with the club owner and was promptly told to take his cameraman and leave. Standing now in the rain out front of the comedy club, I still wanted to capture something. So right there on the street for pedestrians to watch, Richard performed one of his poetry slams. That night I saw something special in Richard and that moment became the opening sequence to this story. Never one to pass up an opportunity, I began filming Richard in his day-to-day life, and quickly learned that all was not right in this brash comedian’s world. As I followed Richard, recording the collapse of his career and his struggle with addiction, he becomes homeless. I felt a divine obligation to stick it out with Richard. Even though this was a dark, brutal time in this man’s life, I also was blessed to witness Richard find the miracle of recovery. This 7 year journey that I went on with Richard makes for a beautiful story to what’s called “Never Be Done: The Richard Glenn Lett Story.”

Director Bio

Canadian filmmaker Roy Tighe has been mentored by two time Oscar nominee, Bud Smith the Oscar nominated editor of The Exorcist and Flashdance. Roy is currently a working director in Los Angeles directing numerous short films, web series and commercials. Working for such brands as Alcatel, TCL and Coors Light totaling well over 500 videos. Roy’s first film, Where’s Barry?was released on VOD in December 2016. Previously, Roy had spent time performing as a stand-up comedian, which led to his introduction to Richard Lett, the subject of his first feature Never Be Done: The Richard Glen Lett Story.

Richard’s Bio

Finding a home in the stand-up comedy scene in Vancouver, Richard began making a name for himself with his brash, unapologetic style of jokes and crowd interaction. After years of honing his skills on the stage, Lett found himself headlining tours for Yuk Yuk’s. In the mid 90’s Richard was a subject in the CBC’s Road Warriors, a documentary television series about the lives of touring stand-up comedians.

Never quite a household name, Richard Lett has become a sort of journeyman of the Canadian comedy scene over the past thirty years, respected by his fellow comedians and sought out by die-hard comedy fans. In the time since he began his career in stand-up, Richard has tried his hand at poetry, writing, and acting, landing small roles on the TV showsSupernatural, Dark Angel, andThe Firm, and as a playwright he has received two Jessie Richardson Award nominations for “Most Outstanding Original Play.” Most recently, Richard received a rare standing ovation at the London Poetry Slam for his one-man show “Sober But Never Clean”. His performance was described as such: “Richard grabbed our audience’s attention and didn’t let go. His ability to make the crowd laugh and reflect simultaneously by sharing intimate personal stories mixed with hilarious jokes is unparalleled. He has a unique talent in rolling poetry, comedy, and storytelling together.”

Today, Richard continues to tour across the country with his “Sober But Never Clean” show, which details his experiences in the stand-up comedy profession, his struggles with drugs and alcohol, and his complicated relationship with sobriety.

Roy Tighe and Richard Lett are available for interviews upon request and will be in attendance at the screening at Vancouver Just For Laughs Comedy Festival and will have a Q and A after the screening.

The Woman Who Loves Giraffes

THE WOMAN WHO LOVES GIRAFFES,

A DOCUMENTARY

ABOUT DR. ANNE INNIS DAGG,

FROM WRITER/DIRECTOR ALISON REID,

OPENS IN VANCOUVER ON JANUARY 11, 2019 AND EDMONTON ON JANUARY 9, 2019

(VANCOUVER, BC) Robin Smith, President of Kinosmith Inc. is delighted to announce that The Woman Who Loves Giraffes, the Bell Media Original Documentary about Dr. Anne Innis Dagg from writer/director Alison Reid (The Baby Formula) will open in Vancouver on Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Vancity Theatre and in Edmonton on January 9th, 2019 at Metro Cinema.

Opening to sold-out audiences at The Hot Docs – Doc Soup film series in Toronto, The Calgary Film Festival and in Waterloo The Woman Who Loves Giraffes is the previously unknown story of Canadian biologist Dr. Anne Innis Dagg, who, in 1956 at age 23, before Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey began their seminal work, Dr. Dagg traveled alone to South Africa and is believed to be the world’s first person, male or female, to study the behaviour of an animal in the wild. Her pioneering efforts were ground-breaking, but upon her return home to Canada, her career was destroyed. Anne (now 85) re-traces the steps of her trail-blazing 1956 journey, giving us an intimate look into her life as a young woman, juxtaposed with a first-hand look at the devastating reality that giraffes are facing today and the forces that brought her back at a time when the giraffe world needs her most.

In 1972, having published 20 research papers and after working as an assistant professor of zoology at the University of Guelph, an all-male tenure committee denied her tenure as a full-time professor. She couldn’t apply to the University of Waterloo because the Dean there told Anne that he would never give tenure to a married woman. This was the catalyst that transformed Anne into a feminist activist. For three decades, Anne Innis Dagg was absent from the giraffe world until 2010 when she was sought out by an international organization of giraffologists and not just brought back to into the fold, but also finally celebrated for her work.

By retracing her original steps, and with letters and stunning, original 16mm film footage, Anne offers an intimate window into her life as a young woman, juxtaposed with a first-hand look at the devastating reality that giraffes are facing today. Both the world’s first ‘giraffologist’, whose research findings ultimately became the foundation for many scientists following in her footsteps, and the species she loves have each experienced triumphs as well as nasty battle scars. The Woman Who Loves Giraffes gives us a moving perspective on both.

Pursuing Giraffe Adventures Inc. produced the documentary with Joanne Jackson (The Messenger, The Big Wait, Long Haul Big Hearts) and Alison Reid, and executive produced by Paul Zimic (Grass 2, Never Enough).

Featuring the voices of Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Victor Garber (Argo, Milk, Titanic), David Chinchilla (The Expanse) and Lindsay Leese (Bomb Girls) reading letters written by young Anne, Fleur de Lys manager, Alex Matthew, Anne’s husband, Ian Dagg, and Anne’s mother, Mary Quayle Innis, The Woman Who Loves Giraffes incorporates present-day footage with vintage 16mm archival footage from 1956-57 which was filmed by Anne Dagg herself, and, when she is in frame, by South African rancher, Alex Matthew.

Cinematography by Dale Hildebrand (Peace, TO in 24) and Iris Ng (Point of Departure, Stories We Tell, The Ghosts in Our Machine), editing by Mike Munn (Hip-Hop Evolution, Stories We Tell) and Caroline Christie (Birdland, Project Grizzly), costume design by Anne Dixon (Anne with an E, Shoot the Messenger) and music by Tom Third (What Wala Wants, Yellow is Forbidden, Shoot the Messenger).

The Woman Who Loves Giraffes was made with the participation of Ontario Creates, Telefilm Canada and the Rogers Group of Funds through the Theatrical Documentary Program, the Rogers Documentary Fund, Rogers Telefund, and KinoSmith Inc. The film is a Bell Media Original Documentary and was commissioned by The Movie Network (TMN).

Distribution in Canada is being handled by Kinosmith Inc.

FESTIVE FLOORING UPGRADES FOR YOUR HOLIDAY HOME

‘Tis the season to put your best foot forward…literally!  Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring is just what you need to upgrade your holiday home. Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring (LVP) is the perfect solution because it’s so realistic yet it can take all the wear and tear holiday homes can bring. Whether it is a mountainside chalet in Whistler or a cottage in Muskoka, you need to select flooring that will stand up to snow, sand, mud, and salt.

Holidays are when memories are made. Canadians are investing more and more in a vacation property, so why not make your holiday home a place to relax and enjoy.  Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring means never having to worry about your flooring, as the kids run in and out from building a snowman, racing down the slopes, or simply sitting by the fire as big fluffy snowflakes make magic outside.

We reached out to interior designer Fiona Roeske, who is the Specification Specialist for the 4 Corners brand of LVP, www.4Corners.cato ask her why Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring is so popular with designers.  The response was simple. “Not only are the colours beautiful, but the textures make this flooring so realistic, you think it’s real wood.  It’s also water-resistant and dampens sounds. The best part: LVP is super durable and able to withstand all kid and pets’ activities, all at an amazingly affordable price,” explains Fiona.  “My clients absolutely love this product!”

Over four hundred retailers across Canada carry the 4 Corners brand of Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring due their exceptional selection and service, so chances are there is a dealer near you.

Each LVP plank is comprised of several layers with an antimicrobial coating and is water, scratch, and stain resistant, making 4 Corners LVP flooring the perfect flooring option. The high standards of their mill in South Korea, also ensure the 4 Corners brand of LVP flooring satisfies Green Building Standards.

DIY enthusiasts find it easy to install. It is versatile; easy to clean and maintain. Not only that, it will last longer than other flooring choices without the high price tag. It can quickly transform any home by being able to go over other floors such as hardwood or even ceramic. The floors are flexible too; you can easily pull up one plank if needed rather than having the nightmare of undoing click together flooring.

“I’ve been installing vinyl flooring in the Greater Toronto Area for 16 years.  For the last 2 years, I’ve been installing 4 Corners Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring. The contemporary colours, ease of install, makes this economically positive.  I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this product,” says Shawn Daley of Generations Flooring.

So as you light the fireplace this holiday, enjoy entertaining your family and friends on your beautiful LVP flooring.

Molly Annelle

Rising singer/songwriter and producer, Molly Annelle, has released her latest EP ‘Pick Me Ups’ – an alternative R&B musical journey of soothing yet funky melodies.

Back by popular demand, Molly headlines her ‘Pick Me Ups’ release at Island Cafe, White Rock on December 21st

Molly Annelle’s desire to self-produce her own songs, and fulfill her unique creative vision, is the inspiration for her 6-song EP ‘Pick Me Ups’ just released worldwide and available on all major platforms. The ethos of Pick Me Ups not only does what the title says, pick you up but also entertains with its storytelling and calms with its chill vibes.  The EP is entirely produced, written and sung by the one-of-a-kind creative machine, Molly, and covers the genres, Alternative R&B, electronic/dream pop, and chillwave.

“What drove ‘Pick Me Ups’ was the need to create something that was totally my own vision, done by me and only me,” says Molly Annelle.

What inspires this young talent to create these insightful songs? “I have an extremely busy and many times, anxious mind. I wrote Pick Me Ups to help others achieve a sense of well being. Listening to music has the power to lessen the burden that emotional conflict and other forms of mental illness can bring. It helps us escape. These six songs are meant to engender a feeling of positivity, no matter what one might be going through ‘in real life’.”

Molly’s style of music has evolved since her last album, Melody. What has caused this shift in her songs?  “I am constantly being introduced to new musical artists like SZA, Kali Uchis, Ravyn Lenae,” she says. “Their songs made me realize that I can achieve those sounds on my own. This was a revelation to me. I can achieve a sound particular to me now because I have acquired the knowledge and tools to do so. Through self-production I can create music that reflects who I truly am,” adds Molly Annelle.

In addition to writing and singing her own music, Molly’s interest in the production side of music led her to produce ‘Pick Me Up’s entirely by herself. She plans to continue to branch out to help other artists achieve their creative visions, and has already written songs for other artists and projects.
