Talented stunt actor Lisa Chandler is gearing up for an extremely busy season on the big and small screen with her latest roles in Untitled Siege Picture, Lucifer, and Altered Carbon. Lisa is a multi-talented performer who often switches gears from stunts to acting, and incorporates the two depending on the role. From Anne Hathaway to Charlize Theron and a host of many others in-between, Lisa’s career has enabled her to work with some of Hollywood’s A-list actors.
First up this fall, Lisa appears as Maddie Howard in Fox’s hit supernatural crime TV series Lucifer on November 14th, 2016. Also on the small screen, the TV series Altered Carbon, slated to debut on Netflix early 2017, sees Lisa takes on the role of Mary Lou Henchy. And on the big screen, Lisa is in the role of Phoenix, alongside Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) and Michael Jai White (Tyson) in Sony Pictures’ feature film Untitled Siege Picture scheduled for release in 2017.
In her two latest TV series, Lisa plays two completely opposite characters. On Lucifer, in the thrilling episode titled ‘Trip to Stabby Town’, Lisa portrays a young girl-next-door who encounters a daytime nightmare alongside Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis).
On the other side of the spectrum, Lisa plays prostitute Mary Lou Henchy in Altered Carbon. Lisa is featured in Season 1 in Altered Carbon (currently filming), set in the future where consciousness is digitized and stored in cortical stacks implanted in the spine, allowing humans to survive physical death by having their memories and consciousness “re-sleeved” into new bodies. Altered Carbon is Lisa’s most proud project so far. “I’m very happy to be working on another Netflix production and love every aspect of their creative development routine. From stunts, to rehearsals, to working closely with directors that let you ‘play’ and be creative is just so freeing as an actor/performer!” Lisa exclaims.
In Untitled Siege Picture, Lisa plays Phoenix, a tough SWAT officer who has found her team as her family members. Phoenix is a “tough chick” who loves to crack the dirty jokes with the gang and stops at nothing to carry out a fully completed mission, even if that means being bold and taking one for the team. In this role, Lisa also completes the stunts for her character.
Along with acting, Lisa is just as busy with her stunt profession. She just finished working with the Oscar Award winner Charlize Theron on the feature film, Tully, where she performed water stunts. She also recently stunt doubled Margaret Qualley on the thriller film Death Note, as well as Elizabeth Lail on Dead of Summer Season 1 this past summer. The majority of the work was Lisa’s specialty – water stunts – along with wirework. “I love preparing for the cold water! Anything in the ocean or tank, sign me up!” Lisa proclaims.
Lisa’s first major glimpse of the stunt department was while she was standing in for Kate Beckinsale for the feature film Underworld 4. She instantly knew that stunts was what she wanted to pursue. Lisa continued working with Kate on her next show Total Recall. During the four months of filming in Toronto, Lisa would show her interest in stunt performing to the stunt coordinator/department. Shortly after, Lisa scored a stunt gig on second unit doubling Kate. If you have watched Once Upon a Time, Supernatural, Man in the High Castle or Aftermath, you have seen Lisa’s stunt work in action. In 2015, Lisa also stunt doubled for Rose Marie DeWitt on the spine-chilling horror film Poltergeist, in which she also got to work alongside Sam Rockwell. Lisa has also been a part of many Lifetime and Hallmark films and is a regular with the Supernatural team working with Jared Padalecki and Jenson Ackles ‘fighting them and demons’ for over 17 episodes.
Lisa’s acting credits also include Reign, Motive, Signed, Sealed, Delivered, Lost Without You, and Random Acts of Romance, just to name a few. She is also currently working on two Crazy 8’s films this year.
Lisa’s workout is not your ordinary regimen. “As a stunt performer, training is 90% of the job and filming is 10%”, says Lisa. She trains in the water doing free-diving/scuba, film fighting, wirework and anything that challenges and prepares her for what may come. Lisa’s motto is “Everything is possible in the world of stunts and I want to be ready!” Something that has stuck with Lisa comes from Scott Ateah, a local stunt coordinator/performer, ‘If you’ve not over prepared, you’re not prepared.’
Lisa grew up in Kelowna, BC and Peterborough, ON, and now resides in Vancouver, BC. Lisa has known she wanted to be an actor since she was a kid, always “goofing around”, performing accents and taking part in small plays within her school/community doing improv. Once she realized a living could be made out of it, she pursued her career. Lisa has studied acting with Second City Toronto, Lewis Baumander, David Rotenberg, Andrew McIlroy and Alison Araya in Toronto and Vancouver. Lisa was always very physically active, playing most sports as a kid, mainly dominating in ice hockey throughout college, and as well as years of swimming and track and field.
