Doralynn Mui in Riverdale 2020

Actress Doralynn Mui gets to push her boundaries in her role as Joan Berkeley on The CW series Riverdale

Actress Doralynn Mui pushes her boundaries on The CW series Riverdale in her role as Joan Berkeley.  ‘Joan’ is one of the most talented students at the elite Stonewall Prep, and a member of the exclusive Quill and Skull literary society. Along with her privileged clique, she isn’t afraid to push boundaries to mess with Jughead (Cole Sprouse) and those closest to him. Doralynn is thrilled to be part of the extremely talented cast in this recurring role. Riverdale Season 4 episode 10 “Varsity Blues” is back from hiatus on January 22 with a new episode airing every Wednesday at 8:00 PM PST/EST on The CW then streaming on Netflix the following day.

Doralynn has a number of other productions coming out this year. In the short film All-in Madonna directed by Arnold Lim, Doralynn plays ‘Kiera,’ who is popular, outgoing, and initially welcoming to the new girl. All-In Madonna will have its Canadian Premiere on January 26 at 3pm at the Vancouver Short Film Festival and is scheduled to screen in England as part of the London Short Film Festival. Most recently the short film screened at the New Jersey Film Festival and Golden Door Film Festival.

One of the roles Doralynn had the most fun working on is her guest star role as ‘Riku’ on SyFy’s Deadly Classepisode The Clampdown, now airing on Crave. In this role Doralynn had her first choreographed fight scene, which was a fun challenge. Riku is the top lieutenant in Saya’s (Lana Condor) Kuroki clan. Riku rebels against Saya and tries to take matters into her own hands when she feels that Saya is too weak. “Riku is such a ‘badass’ and had such a clear motivation for everything she did,” adds Doralynn.

Doralynn is also the lead actor in the short film Bunny Man, which won VAFF’s Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon Jury Award- Best 10 Minute Short, as well as VAFF’s People’s Choice Award- Mighty Moviemaking Marathon Best Overall Short.

In the indie feature film Four Walls directed by Darcey Touhey, Doralynn plays ‘Lindsay.’ She also has the role of ‘Cranberry’ in Awesomeness Films’ Spontaneous starring Katherine Langford (Knives Out, 13 Reasons Why). She has also roles in several pilots that we are waiting to see if they will be picked up, including NBCUniversal Peacock’s One of Us Is Lying, based on the YA novel by Karen M. McManus.

As a kid, she always loved entertaining people by pretending to be in soap operas, making up stories and playing other characters. Her interest in acting was awakened when she was given a small role in the school play in Grade 7, but never thought acting could be a real career that normal people could pursue. After high school, she started auditioning for independent and student films, thinking that she would just try acting temporarily, but soon realized that there was nothing else she would rather do. Doralynn is so excited to be a working actor and thankful to be acting for a living!

Doralynn booked her first union project on her second auditionTV pilot for APTN entitled Skye and Chang won Best Live Short at the American Indian Film Festival.

Doralynn studied Film Production and Communication at Simon Fraser University, and took theatre as an elective before eventually deciding to pursue acting as a career.

She has trained with many coaches in Vancouver and Toronto.  She primarily trains with her longtime mentor and coach, Peter Bryant (who plays Waldo Weatherbee in Riverdale) at The Bryant Centre, and Aaron Craven, at Working Actors Gym. In the past, she has trained in improv at the Second City in Toronto, and Scene Study with John Cassini, Ben Ratner, Carol Kelsay and Andrew McIlroy, among others.

Doralynn was born, raised and resides in Vancouver, Canada. She is an advocate for diversity in the arts and is encouraged to see that there are more opportunities for Asians and minorities in the last couple of years.

Doralynn is available for interviews and photos upon request.
