They soon spiral downward into a world of heroin and crime. River Road is being distributed by Ohio-based Distribution Company Four by Three.

Written and directed by filmmaker Rob Willey, this gritty independent drama/thriller stars an incredibly talented cast including Cody Kearsley (Riverdale, Power Rangers, Daybreak) as Travis, Lexi Redman (Concrete Evidence) as Zoe, Steven Roberts (Tully, Beyond the Woods) in his 2021 Leo Award-winning performance as Fresno, Primo Allon (Altered Carbon, Godzilla) as Cole. Other cast include Sunee Dhaliwal, Aaron Pearl, and Melanie Rose Wilson.

River Road is a drama centered on a musician, Travis (Cody Kearsley), who has just come off a successful club tour with his indie-rock band. Hoping to clean up his lifestyle after the hard-partying tour, Travis moves into his aunt’s cabin in Vancouver BC, which his aunt has left to him while she is living abroad.

Travis meets an attractive woman, Zoe (Lexi Redman), who he immediately has a strong connection with. Travis and Zoe soon fall into a dark downward spiral with their heavy drug use which leads to them committing armed robbery. Throughout the film, we also learn more about Zoe’s character, who may or may not be hiding some disturbing secrets regarding her past.

River Road received seven 2021 Leo Awards nominations (The Academy Awards of BC) including Best Picture, Best Director, Screenplay, and won for both Best Supporting Actor and Best Musical Score. River Road film played in multiple film festivals including the Toronto Independent Film Festival as well as in select theatres across North America through 2021/2022. In 2016 Rob wrote and directed his first full-length feature film Dark Cove. The independent thriller went on to receive critical acclaim, with iHorror.com calling the movie “…an incredible, strikingly unique psychological thriller.” Rob was inspired by the DIY independent filmmakers of Generation X such as Robert Rodriguez, Richard Linklater, and Doug Liman, and applied many of their guerrilla low-budget shooting techniques in his early work.

After graduating high school in Okanagan BC, Cody Kearsley did three years of extensive acting and dance training at a musical theatre school in Los Angeles. Upon returning to Vancouver in 2016, Cody was drawn to the role of Travis in River Road as he has always wanted to creatively explore the world of drug addiction after being exposed to the darkness of the hard-partying Los Angeles show business scene in his late teens. Cody is best known for his role as football jock Moose Mason on CW’s hit teen drama series Riverdale, Cody was then cast alongside Matthew Broderick as one of the leads in the popular Netflix series Daybreak. He also co-starred with Bruce Willis in Breach.

NWT Indigenous producer Kelvin Redvers launches production company, IndigiFilm

NWT Indigenous producer Kelvin Redvers launches ambitious new production company, IndigiFilm

The filmmaker garnered international attention for wearing Moccasins on the Cannes Red Carpet

For immediate release: Vancouver, BC – Kelvin Redvers, the veteran Indigenous producer/writer (Deninu Kųę́ First Nation Northwest Territories) is launching a new film and production company, IndigiFilm. The BC-based companywill focus on developing and producing scripted and unscripted projects in collaboration with international and Canadian creatives.

IndigiFilm has already completed filming on its first feature Cold Road, in partnership with Crave. The thriller was written and directed by Redvers. The story revolves around  an Indigenous woman’s harrowing road trip to be with her dying mother in a remote northern First Nation. It was shot entirely in Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

Development at IndigiFilm will be led by industry veteran Neil Thomas, co-creator of the international hit series Highway Thru Hell and showrunner on Discovery Canada’s Mud Mountain Haulers (S1). Thomas launched his own factual television career more than 25 years ago with the Emmy Award winning documentary Battle of the X-Planes (PBS – Nova).

Mark Miller, co-founder of Great Pacific Media and the former president of Thunderbird Entertainment (Highway thru Hell, Air Show, Game of Homes) brings his years of experience to help advise, create and finance productions.

“Our goal is to produce bold content that will resonate with audiences”, said Redvers. “With the hit making experience of Neil and Mark to support my vision, I believe IndigiFilm will be a global premium content creator. We want IndigiFilm to be a place broadcaster and streamers can feel confident that their investments in production will win audiences. IndigiFilm will be a place where Indigenous and non-Indigenous stories are told in an authentic way by a broad spectrum of creative voices backed by one of the most experienced production teams in North America.”

Redvers recently made international headlines after an incident at the Cannes Film Festival. Redvers was ordered to leave a screening after he attempted to walk the red carpet in traditional Dene moccasins, formal wear for his culture. Cannes later acknowledged they made a mistake. The story went viral, stirring a conversation about cultural inclusivity. “What happened in Cannes underlines the need for more Indigenous presence in international media. We need to help bring a better understanding of who we are to the rest of the world.”

Redvers is an award-winning filmmaker whose work has screened worldwide, including the Toronto International Film Festival. In 2018, he co-created CBC’s primetime unscripted series High Arctic Haulers (8×60). As a journalist he worked on CTV’s First Story where the first episode he produced/directed won a prestigious Jack Webster Award. He’s also the co-founder of the non-profit org “We Matter”, an organization that uses social media and video to share positive messages with Indigenous youth from across Canada, with the aim of reducing the rates of depression and suicide. For this work, he and his fellow co-founder, sibling T’anchay Redvers, were awarded Governor General Medals.

Redvers is excited for this new chapter, saying: “It’s the exact right time for this company. The industry is craving diverse voices. IndigiFilm will deliver fantastic storytelling that meets this need, producing meaningful and entertaining media for the global marketplace.”

Kelvin Redvers will be in attendance at the Banff World Media Festival from June 12 – 15, 2022 and is available for interviews upon request.

Matt Shewchuk, President & Executive Producer of Big Time Decent Productions is pleased to announce that the second season of Backroad Truckers has been greenlit by Corus Entertainment to air on The HISTORY Channel® across Canada in 2023. The popular TV series was also recently sold to the American subscription streaming service Hulu.

Backroad Truckers is a docu-series about a special breed of blue-collar drivers who do whatever it takes to make a buck with their 4x4s on tough northern backroads. That means salvaging machinery from the woods, rescuing stranded drivers, and “hotshotting” vital cargo to remote businesses in impossible locations.

There are a number of exciting projects confirmed for Big Time Decent Productions, including Season 5 of Rust Valley Restorers, which will premiere on The HISTORY Channel in 2023, as well as a ramp-up of the company’s social media division with two original podcasts in production. The podcasts include a veterinary series called The Pawcast with Dr. Lauren and a collectible series called The Collectors Cast.

In addition, Big Time Decent has helped spin Backroad Truckers’ breakout star, Dale Kristensen, into a viral hit on TikTok with plans of launching a standalone YouTube channel.

Big Time Decent is also thrilled to be partnering with producer Rob Vroom of Vroom Productions to launch a new Montréal-based post-production facility called QC Post Media.

Last year, Big Time Decent expanded its support of local storytellers by providing $30,000 in post-production services to emerging Canadian filmmakers at the 2021 Whistler Film Festival with plans to do so again for the 2022 edition.

Snake of the Nile Book by Author E.A. Jackson

Snake of the Nile, the first book of The Aegean Series by author E. A. Jackson now available

For immediate release: Author E.A. Jackson (pen name of Vancouver-based actor, Ely Jackson) is pleased to announce that her first book entitled Snake of the Nile is now available for purchase. In this first book of the Aegean Series, many pieces are set in motion, deadly secrets are revealed, empires are shaken, and lustful, power-hungry men nurture the viper sleeping in Kleopatra’s heart, a secret known only to herself and Akela, with history-shaking consequences still to come.

Jackson’s whole childhood was intertwined with the ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian myths and legends that were read to her by her Greek family. Cleopatra, with whom she shares a heritage and spells through the book as Kleopatra (the figure’s authentic Greek spelling), was always someone who fascinated her. Not in terms of a woman being in power or epic love stories that spanned continents, but more so because Jackson couldn’t help but feel that we’d gotten her wrong. What if her motivations weren’t remotely close to what historians speculated, what if she was an even more horrid tyrant than her father, and what if in her romantic dalliances, there was not a trace of love at all? Unless she kept a personal diary, we could not possibly know and that has always fascinated Jackson, the endless possibilities of plot lines lost to time. That is what you will find in Jackson’s book Snake of the Nile, Cleopatra but not as she has been portrayed to us.

About the Book: History isn’t always written as it truly happened . . .

In all four corners of the ancient world, growing threats assemble into a storm of carnage, as the Roman eagle seeks to seize all who will not kneel before it in its golden talons.

In the colossal palace of Pharaoh Ptolemy XII Auletes, his youngest daughter, sweet Kleopatra Vll, and her dearest friend, Akela, daughter of the pharaoh’s favorite general, are only vaguely aware of the dark currents swirling under the surface of their world, and dangerously unaware of a dark prophecy concerning them both that will be set in motion by the arrival of a mysterious visitor from foreign lands.

On Krete, the last Spartan princess is humiliated and imprisoned after being pulled from a city in flames, fighting to keep some vestige of her people’s legendary spirit alive.

In Rome, the quietly troubled Julius Caesar mourns lost love even as he solidifies his rule with the crucifixion of the slave rebel Spartacus and all who followed him.

And on the far-away shores of the Aegean, the last remaining tribes of ferocious Amazons struggle to avoid extinction as they battle forces from all sides, and alliances amongst enemies are forged out of necessity.

A deadly secret born of vengeance and fear, known only by Kleopatra and her childhood companion, threatens to rock the foundations of a powerful empire and discredit the lineage of the last Egyptian dynasty. With hungry eyes set only on revenge, the whispered words of lustful, power-hungry men nurture the viper sleeping in Kleopatra’s heart like venom infiltrating the bloodstream of history.

Author BIO:

E.A. Jackson is the pen name of Ely Jackson, a Greek-Australian actress born in Perth, Western Australia. Jackson is best known for her work in The Grand Unified Theory (2015), The Switch (2015), Alone on Christmas (2020), and The Dragon Prince on Netflix and was nominated in the 2017 LEO Awards for Best Supporting Performance by a Female in a Motion Picture. Jackson is trained in mounted combat, archery, firearms, and swordplay, studied musical theatre in university, dance for eight years, and singing for five in addition to her work in film and television. Her passion for cinema and storytelling led her to a decade-long career in Vancouver, Canada where she currently resides, writing, acting, teaching, and developing the next two installments of The Aegean Series.

An only child, Jackson grew up in the vineyard farmlands of rural South Western Australia with many animals and acres of forest to encourage her imagination – noting that a beaten-up shoebox of Xena the Warrior Princess DVDs from her aunty one Christmas has had a major influence on her morals, values, and perspective. Now in 2022 Ely publishes her first-ever literary work, with book one in The Aegean Series: Snake of the Nile, where four ancient empires orchestrate what we now know as history, at whatever cost.

Predominant Studios Announce Release of Hip Hop Artist Mr. ESQ singe ‘Rich Problem’

Predominant Studios is pleased to announce the release of Hip Hop Artist Mr. ESQ’s single Rich Problem featuring Madchild from his upcoming debut album ESQUIRE slated for release in late July

His single, A Mother’s Day was released on May 8th as a tribute to his mother

The Global Music Group Record Label Predominant Studios Inc. is pleased to announce that Mr. ESQ has released two singles from his debut album ESQUIRE Rich Problem featuring Swollen Members’ lead singer Madchild and A Mother’s Day a tribute to his mother released on Mother’s Day. The album is a compilation of songs laced with so much diversity and ingenuity, a revelation of Mr. ESQ’s personality as he tries to fully express himself with each track on the album.Mr. ESQ’s ESQUIRE album is slated for release in late July.

Ahead of his album’s release, Mr. ESQ has this to say, “This album is a re-introduction of myself on a global scale. As most of my music is, this album harbours a lot of emotion. I pour my heart and soul into my music, and by listening to this album, it will pretty much answer any questions anyone has about me.”

Mr. ESQ has blossomed into a fine artist since entering the Canadian entertainment scene. Based in Victoria, British Columbia, Mr. ESQ started music when he was 12, writing down his thoughts in a poetic style. He started to flow with a cadence and began putting his writing to beats. During house parties, his peers would request him to freestyle, which helped him to discover his love for performances and sharing his writing with others. Sadly, he began to veer off the path of music when he began working in his teens and didn’t come back to it until he was incarcerated.”

Born as the youngest male of six siblings with three older brothers and sisters, he naturally gravitated to his brothers, which opened him up to the realities of life. Sooner than expected, he got into drug distribution and became a driver for illegal activities before he was old enough to own his driver’s license. At age 18, Mr. ESQ was expecting a son and decided to track back from the violent lifestyle he had adopted. Unfortunately, his son died, and the event induced a dark chapter. He began to drink heavily, and not long after, Mr. ESQ had to face fourteen years in the Federal penitentiary. The prosecution eventually got a conviction, and he ended up with a combined sentence of ten years.

At the Federal penitentiary, Mr. ESQ began to make self-discoveries, which changed his life. Today, he has a daughter, a business, and a budding musical career. “I want people to listen to my stories, learn from my experiences and not make the same mistakes I did. I hope they internalize my stories and use them for their growth. My ultimate goal is to help guide those in their youth down a better path and give them the knowledge and education to ensure they don’t make the same mistakes I did.”

Through mentorship and coaching, Harrison Mresq, known by his stage persona as Mr. ESQ, Predominant Studios has aided him in improving his voice talents by exploring his hip-hop roots but also experimenting with other genres that suit his voice, such as R&B and Pop/Country.

The single Rich Problem by Mr. ESQ featuring Madchild is available in stores and streaming everywhere. My Mother’s Day is available everywhere on May 8th, 2022. Fans can expect an exceptional rendition of his life and experiences.

On Acting …and life, the new book by Acclaimed Actor/Director/Author William B. Davis will be released on May 3, 2022

Best known as the Cigarette Smoking Man on TV’s The X-Files William’s book is part memoir and part master class

For immediate release: Acclaimed award-winning actor William B. Davis, best known as the Cigarette Smoking Man on TV’s The X-Files, is pleased to announce that his second book ‘On Acting and …life’ will be released on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

About the Book:

Dozens of books on acting exist, but none of them are quite like this. Part memoir and part master class, modelled after Stephen King’s bestseller, On Writing, the book is divided into two parts.

Part one takes readers on a seventy-year journey that begins with William B. Davis, at age twelve, riding his bicycle through the streets of Toronto to his first acting classes, and eventually leads to him starring in the long-running television series, The X-Files starringDavid Duchovny, and Gillian Anderson. From a summer theatre in Ontario to the National Theatre of Great Britain to the National Theatre School of Canada to the William Davis Centre for Actors’ Study in Vancouver, few have travelled such a colourful journey. Along the way, Davis met all sorts of familiar faces, including Donald Sutherland, Brian Cox, Albert Finney, Laurence Olivier, Maggie Smith, David Duchovny, and Gillian Anderson, among others.

Although there is a lot about acting in part one, the heart of the book for an aspiring or working actor is in part two. What has Davis learned in seventy years of working both in the theatre and in film and television? A lot, as you will see. Davis’s grasp of the art of acting is vast and practical. And in some ways, original.

In his final chapter, Davis explores the underlying philosophy of acting and actor training and argues for bringing the work into the twenty-first century.

Praise for On Acting …and life.

“This book celebrates a lifetime’s passion and commitment to the mysterious realm of acting. It’s not a tale of fame, fortune, and gossip, but instead, it documents the twists and turns of an artist’s determined engagement with making and sustaining a career in Canada for over sixty years. It’s a history lesson and an inspiration, reminding the discouraged actor that you never know what’s coming round the corner so be prepared and keep the faith. The discussion of what makes for good acting is a wealth of practical, clear advice, mined and honed in decades of devoted exploration as an actor, director, and teacher. Gold!”  Rosemary Dunsmore (Award-winning Actor, Director, and Acting teacher)

“Before he was my cigarette smoking nemesis for over 25 years, before he incarnated one of TV’s great villains, William Davis was an acting teacher. It’s not true that those who can’t do, teach because Bill can do both. And he can write. Like all good teachers, the wisdom and stories that Bill elaborates upon in his book are really lessons about life. It’s possible you will become a better actor after reading Bill; it’s also possible you will become a better person. For fans of The X-Files or just people who enjoy listening to a no-nonsense craftsman and lifer talk about his craft with none of the usual humble-brag or sensational Hollywood bullshit.”  David Duchovny (Novelist and Star of The X-Files)

“Bill Davis’s ‘On Acting’ is a fascinating tapestry of a life dedicated not only to the Art, but also to a deeper philosophical grasp of our work. Bill chronicles a highly personal journey that is founded in the search for a truth that truly illuminates the mystery of our craft!”  Brian Cox (Bafta Award Winner and Star of Succession)

“Bill’s vast experience, on stage, screen and as a teacher is more than impressive, it’s a rarity in our culture of instant fame. I cast him as a villain 30 years ago, but little did I know he’d always played to win.”  Chris Carter (Creator of The X-Files)
