Exclusive Announcement: Honey Girls movie

Ashanti joins Build-A-Bear movie Honey Girls with music by A Star Is Born songwriter

A star is born at Build-A-Bear.

Build-A-Bear is bringing its Honey Girls toy line into the live-action space. And if you’re going to build a feature film musical event, you might as well have a few Grammy winners on board.

Grammy winner and John Tucker Must Die actress Ashanti will star alongside digital star Tessa Brooks in Honey Girls from Build-A-Bear Entertainment, EW can report exclusively.

Production on the film will soon finish with a cast that includes Broadway actor Aliyah Mastin, recording artist Ava Grace, and Black-ish actor and singer Frankie McNellis playing the titular Honey Girls.

Music video director Trey Fanjoy — who has worked with the likes of Taylor SwiftMiranda LambertBlake Shelton, and Keith Urban — makes her feature film directorial debut based off a screenplay by Mike Mariano and Cindy McCreery.

Honey Girls will include Julia Michels, another Grammy winner, as Music Supervisor. Lady Gaga collaborator Mark Nilan, Jr., who won a Grammy in 2020 for his work on the soundtrack to A Star Is Born, writes original songs.

Ashanti will star as global pop-star Fancy G, the host of a talent competition that seeks to discover the next great solo artist. Three young musicians sign up for it but quickly discover that they are “better together” — a reference to the song “Everything Is Better” written for the Honey Girls toy line. They form a secret band called Honey Girls and, with an immediate viral mega hit on their hands, perform in disguise to avoid elimination by Fancy G. In the end, the competitors must decide what is more important — fame or friendship.

“The Honey Girls story uses the power of music as a catalyst to both encourage the celebration of individuality while recognizing that we can also be ‘better together,’ wrapped in a fun girl-empowerment story of discovery,” Sharon Price John, President and CEO of Build-A-Bear Workshop, Inc., said in a statement.

Ashanti was last seen on screen on an episode of the CW’s Dynastyon season 3, and she also starred in the Lifetime movie A Christmas Winter Song. Aside from her music, which includes her self-titled award-winning, chart-topping album and her most recent single drop “2:35 (I Want You),” Ashanti is also known for roles in Coach CarterResident Evil Extinction, and The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz

Brooks is an actress, dancer, YouTube star, and social media influencer who has choreographed and danced for The Voice, Kids Choice Awards, The Teen Choice Awards, and Radio Disney.

Now to introduce the Honey Girls.

McNellis, who published her first song at the age of 9, has performed the National Anthem for both the NBA and MLB. She was previously seen on black-ish from ABC and Play Anything from DreamWorks TV.

Grace trained at the intensive summer vocal music program A Cappella Academy and is currently preparing new music to be released later this year.

A singer, dancer, and actor, Mastin was cast in the original Broadway production of The Lion King. She recorded with the kids a capella group Acapop! KIDS and lent her voice to various charitable causes, including Broadway Kids Against Bullying.

Honey Girls is produced through Foundation Media Partners with Patrick Hughes serving as producer. John is also acting as executive producer.

The film was acquired by Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and is expected to release this Fall.

Frederik Robert Coaching Casts on Disney Freeform

Renowned vocalist Frédérik Robert is currently coaching TV series lead Taylor Hickson, Lyne Renee, and other cast members on Disney Freeform’s Motherland: Fort Salem

Frédérik, one of Canada’s top vocal coaches, is also the language coach for the brand-new language ‘Menishe’ aka ‘Mothertongue’ written specifically for the new series

Frédérik Robert uses his incredible talent for a very unique career as the Vocal and Language Coach on television series Motherland: Fort Salem

His role on the series involves working with the actors on songs, vocal magic (the main superpower of the witches on the series) and teaching the actors the brand-new language “Menishe”, also known as Mothertongue, written specifically for the show by David J. Peterson (Game of Thrones, The Witcher, The 100) and Jessie Sams.

Motherland: Fort Salem is an American supernatural drama television series created by Eliot Laurence. The series stars Taylor Hickson as Raelle Collar, Jessica Sutton as Tally Craven, and Ashley Nicole Williams as Abigail Bellweather, who are three witches enlisted in the U.S. Army. The first season of Motherland: Fort Salem is streaming now on Hulu, Disney+, Freeform, and Amazon Prime U.S. The second season is set to air this summer on Freeform, ABC Spark (Canada) and will stream on Hulu, and Disney+.

Motherland: Fort Salem marks Frédérik’s first television series as a vocal and language coach. “I’m so proud of the success of Motherland: Fort Salem,” said Frédérik. “The show places an emphasis on diversity, mainly casting women, which I really love and appreciate. The main superpower for the witches is their VOICES aka vocal magic, which is unique to the series. The actors are all brilliant, intelligent, talented beings that are so easy to work with.”

“Frédérik has been wonderful to work with for two reasons. First, he puts in the work during the off-hours, and it shows. Méníshè is a difficult language to pull off, and Frédérik’s improvement from the first time he heard it prior to season one to now has been dramatic and noteworthy. Second, Frédérik’s willingness to work with me – and continue to work with me – has been refreshing. Most of the time I have no interaction with the dialect coach – or if I do, it’s via an introductory email. That Frédérik has been willing to work with me to get the lines down is both a comfort and a joy. And, of course, the onscreen results speak for themselves. It makes me feel a lot better about not being on set knowing that my work is in good hands,” says David J. Peterson (Game of Thrones, The Witcher, The 100), writer, Motherland: Fort Salem.

Frédérik, who was an original member of The Tenors (formally The Canadian Tenors) and founding member of Romanza – The Art of the Tenor, has vast coaching experience, working with actors and clients including Holly Deveaux (Shadowhunters), Caitlin Stryker (Clarice), Bradley Stryker (CSI: NY, Lost in Space), Nicole Maines (Supergirl) Catherine Lough Haggquist (Supernatural, The Good Doctor), Marci T House (Godzilla), Dave Faber (Faber Drive, Juno Nominee), David Beckingham (Hey Ocean! Juno Nominee), Frankie Cena (Sing On! Netflix Champion), Dorjay the Singing Shaman, and many more.

Frédérik began teaching at 18 in his studio which was filled with young acting students eager to learn. He realized early on he had a knack for working with actors. As a singer and actor his whole life, he has been part of shows in theatre, musical theatre, opera, and concerts across North America. This gave him tremendous insight into the way actors and singers think and process, and how to train the entire being and their talent. His curiosity about ‘how’ the voice works and ‘how’ to connect to the words and story have always motivated his teaching – every voice and person is unique.

After 30 years of performing, his calling changed to just focus on his teaching career. His studio had grown substantially over the 20+ years so the transition was smooth. His eclectic studio includes actors, musical theatre performers, opera singers, contemporary music artists, voices in transition, vocal rehab clients, and more. He is also on the College faculty and is the Program Coordinator for the Musical Theatre training program at the Vancouver Academy of Music.

Frédérik was born in Peace River, Alberta and grew up in Falher, Alberta – a small farming community in Northern Alberta. When he was twelve he moved to Leduc, Alberta and started with a new voice teacher, Laurier Fagnan in Edmonton. With his instruction and guidance, Frederik (at only 17) was one of the youngest singers in Canada singing supporting and lead roles with several Western Canadian opera houses.

Frédérik is a Buddhist. He practices meditation and has even led mediation classes at the College. Frédérik is a sound healer and has been featured on numerous guided meditations with Dorjay the Singing Shaman. He and his husband have been married for seven years and reside in Vancouver, B.C.

Frédérik Robert is available for interviews and photos upon request.

Crime Drama Muskie Point

The Crime Drama Muskie Point starring Stephen Sewell, Stephen McNaughton, and Andre Neil McKenzie is now available on Amazon Prime and Tubi

For immediate release: The Sewell Brothers Stephen, Eric, and Ian are pleased to announce that their Canadian feature film Muskie Point is now available on Amazon Prime and Tubi.  Muskie Point is a crime drama employing elements of the action/adventure and comedy genres. Written by Ian Sewell who also directs alongside Stephen and Eric.  The feature film stars Stephen Sewell (100 Miles from Hell, Rosedale), Stephen McNaughton (Toxic, Kingspin), and Andre Neil McKenzie (Fargo TV Series).  Muskie Point is being distributed by Los Angeles based Indie Rights and is available in the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK on Amazon Prime and Tubi.

Synopsis:

The rules are simple. Mr. Mannericks is the boss, your score is his score and he gets his share.  If not, you may find yourself taking a trip to Muskie Point for a final and conclusive chapter to your story.  A fact not lost on any of Mr. Mannericks’ subordinates and currently weighing heavily on the mind of one, in particular, Doyle (Kevin Ibbotson).  Doyle let greed get the better of him when he started earning on the side without the consent or knowledge of his boss.  He got sloppy and he got caught.  Now his crewmates have been ordered to surrender him over to Abrams (Stephen McNaughton), a high-ranking enforcer for Mr. Mannericks.  Doyle’s fate is in their hands as they find themselves torn between loyalty to him and obedience to Mr. Mannericks.

The entire shoot was done on location in Southern British Columbia, utilizing the thick forests of the region. Much of the remote filming locations lacked sufficient road access requiring the equipment to be transported by hand over difficult terrain.  Filmed in the summer, the heat and insects made for a grueling but rewarding experience for the determined cast and crew.

About the Directors:

Ian, Stephen, and Eric Sewell grew up on a rural property in Langley, British Columbia.  Their enthusiasm for filmmaking began in their early teens when they first got their hands on a camcorder.  Starting off with shorts that spoofed popular genres involving ninjas and police, the brothers eventually moved onto more ambitious feature-length projects. This eventually led to the professional world with the commercial release of their previous film 100 Miles from Hell.

Stephen, Ian and Eric Sewell and other lead actors are available for interviews upon request.

World War II Feature Film Recon Nationwide Release November

VORTEX MEDIA, BRAINSTORM MEDIA & ENDERBY ENTERTAINMENT HONOUR REMEMBRANCE DAY WITH NATIONWIDE RELEASE

RECON

A WORLD WAR II FEATURE FILM BASED ON NEW YORK TIMES BEST-SELLER PEACE STARRING ALEXANDER LUDWIG, SAM KEELEY, CHRIS BROCHU AND FRANCO NERO IN AN ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE AVAILABLE ON DEMAND AND DIGITAL HD NOVEMBER 10, 2020

Vancouver/Toronto Canada: Vortex Media and Enderby Entertainment are pleased to bring Academy Award-winner Robert Port’s (TWIN TOWERS, AGENT X) military thriller, RECON to the Vernon Towne Cinema for the Canadian Premiere screening at 6:30 and 9:00 PM. Adapted from the critically acclaimed New York Times best-seller “Peace,” based on a true World War II event, by author Richard Bausch, RECON stars Canadian born Alexander Ludwig (BAD BOYS FOR LIFE, THE HUNGER GAMES, “Vikings”), Sam Keeley (BURNT, “68 Whiskey”), Chris Brochu (DYNASTY, “Shameless”) and Franco Nero (DJANGO UNCHAINED, JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2). The film was shot in British Columbia and is produced by Rick Dugdale and executive produced by Maury Povich. RECON is being distributed by Vortex Media on November 10th in time for Remembrance Day and available on Digital HD and On Demand.

RECON centers around four young men stationed in Italy in the midst of war. The action occurs over the course of one long day as they debate both their fates and that of life itself. As they struggle to make it off the mountain alive, these American soldiers face the worst that war can offer, and through this, each finds his own peace.

Dugdale helped get the production off the ground in British Columbia, Canada, where the film was shot in the winter, depicting severe weather conditions endured in Europe during World War II. The weather showed up as a surprise character in the film, with the production battling below zero temperatures in the mountaintops of the Canadian bush.

Writer/director Robert Port won an Academy Award for his film TWIN TOWERS, a documentary short about Detective Joe Vigiano, an elite New York City policeman who was killed during the tragic events of 9/11. RECON is Port’s feature debut, which he wrote and directed.

“My grandfather fought in the war, and I always envisioned one day making a story about World War II,” Dugdale said.  “Looking at Rob’s adaptation and the vision that he wanted to make was very much in line with the story I wanted to tell.”

Povich was also moved by the story and the purpose.  “After Pearl Harbor, there wasn’t a soul in the United States who didn’t believe that we should respond by joining the effort against Japan and Germany.”

“I’ve always found wartime dramas to be especially moving for me because the stakes are so high.  It’s always life and death,” adds actor and executive producer, Alexander Ludwig.  “It’s always interesting to explore the humanity behind something like that.” Ludwig adds, “A lot of this film is about characters dealing with two sides of themselves and trying to find themselves through the journey.”

Bausch is thrilled to see his book come to life on screen.  “I think it’s a stunning piece of work,” he said.  “Every single frame of it is beautiful, I could not have been happier.  There are sections of it where I think it’s going beyond the book.”

“The story explores the themes I find most important in life – morality, friendship, love, life and death.  And I just wanted to honour Richard’s work.” Port added, “The most important is morality because without it, it’s like being lost in the woods without a compass.”

“We are proud to partner with Brainstorm Media and Enderby Entertainment to bring this important film to Canadian audiences in time for Remembrance Day,” said Rob Harrison, EVP of Distribution and Marketing with Vortex Media. “We don’t want to forget all the Veterans who served. RECON is a great way to honour their bravery at this time of year.”

Mostafa Keshvari First Feature Film About COVID-19

Canadian Filmmaker Mostafa Keshvari is receiving international attention for his feature film Corona, the first feature film about the COVID-19 pandemic.

Corona will be released on September 1st on all major platforms worldwide

At a time when the Coronavirus was starting to make headlines, fast thinking Canadian filmmaker Mostafa Keshvari was in an elevator reading the headlines when he conceived, then wrote and shot the first acclaimed feature film to address the Coronavirus pandemic and Xenophobia that comes with it. Entitled Corona, the Coronavirus thriller was shot just before the shutdown. Mostafa wrote the script in two weeks, built the set in ten days then shot the feature in two days as the Covid-19 story was still unfolding. Filming wrapped on February 15, 2020. Corona had its world premiere at the Oscar qualifying Rhode Island international film festival on 4th of August 2020 where Mostafa won the Director’s Choice Award. Corona is being distributed by Level 33 Entertainment and will be available worldwide on September 1, 2020 on all major platforms including Apple Movies, Comcast, Spectrum, GooglePlay, Microsoft, Redbox and more.

Mostafa wrote, produced and directed Corona starring Andrea Stefancikova (Promiseland), as a blonde wife, Josh Blacker (The 100, See) as the building owner, Zarina Sterling as a millennial woman, Andy Canete as an indebted tenant, Richard Lett (Never Be Done: The Richard Glen Lett Story, Pay Up) as a white supremacist in a wheelchair and a seventh neighbor, and a Chinese newcomer played by Traei Tsai, of having the coronavirus and likely to infect them after she also boards the elevatorShot in 2 days in one location (an elevator) in a single take before the pandemic, Corona looks at what happens when seven unlikely neighbours are trapped in an elevator with a Coronavirus suspect; fear and racism spread among them faster than the virus.

The movie is about fear and “a study of society, people and moral choices, believing that we are all in this ride together.” Says Mostafa. “In real life, everyone faces discrimination, all different kinds, so if I could bring all these people together in the film and trap them,” he thought, “then their true colours would come out.” The actors were given a script but the director also left room for the actors to improvise. “I told them: Imagine that the actual coronavirus is in this elevator.” He wanted the action to unfold in real time. “My struggle was to make sure it was all one shot.”
