Multi talented actress Therés Amee garners rave reviews from the directors for her leading roles in ‘Red Runway’ & ‘Owen and Drew’

Therés has been cast as the lead in the feature film ‘The Heather Project’ that will go to camera on July 3rd in Vancouver

Multi talented actress Therés Amee is receiving rave reviews for her leading roles in the feature film thriller Red Runway and web series Owen and Drew. Yared Gabrekidan, director, writer and producer of Red Runway states, “I sought out Therés and her remarkable acting ability based on her outstanding reputation and achievements in her field. In her leading role as Lucy in the film, Therés portrayed an experienced and tough to please adjudicator. She gave life to her character with a highly convincing performance that impressed everyone involved in the project. Her past achievements in the fashion and modeling world enhanced her representation of her character, as the film encompasses the raw brutality of the industry.”

Red Runway is a racy suspense thriller that takes the audience on a journey through the world of fashion, where murder, money, manipulation, sex, drugs, and unbridled jealousy are all steps to ensure success. Red Runway is being distributed through Legacy Film Works. Featured in Shine on Hollywood Magazine as one of the “Top Black Industry Professionals” in 2013, Yared Gebrekidan is a filmmaker is also known for his work on the films Behind the Killer Line, the upcoming film War for the Planet of the Apes, and Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb, which grossed over $363 million worldwide.

Therés also plays the leading titular role of Drew in the web series Owen & Drew. The series follows two housemates who have to figure out a way to get out of debt or else they face eviction. Their only hope is an ex boyfriend who became YouTube famous overnight. Therés’ character Drew experiences a downfall in her career, being forced to put her creative musical aspirations aside to pay the bills through corporate gigs. Her situation does not help after dumping ex boyfriend, ‘Puke Fighter Paul,’ who ironically becomes Youtube famous after ‘puke fighting’ with a bar goer while he drinks his feelings away over Drew.

Director Erick Boychuk and Creator James Challis both agree, “Therés contributed incredible comedic, dry yet vulnerable acting that made the series as enticing and successful as it was. It’s even more impressive that Therés was such an amazing comedic actor, as she has always leaned to more dramatic roles, and her look is very bold with intensity on camera; but she nailed it to a tee, completely stealing the show with her performance. The production turned out to be a great commercial and critical success, garnering great exposure on YouTube and other platforms. Therés was most definitely leading to this film and I cannot commend her enough for delivering such a stellar performance.”

Just announced! Therés has been cast to play the lead role of Heather, a young woman who goes along with an assumed suicide after a devastating break up in The Heather Project which goes to camera on July 3rd and will be filming throughout July in and around Vancouver, B.C.  Heather returns to her dysfunctional family for her ‘perfect’ younger sister’s wedding. Creator, writer, director, Gina Davies (A Series of Unfortunate Events) has an extensive film background and has been writing this project for years, basing the storyline and character arcs to her own family experiences. Gina’s goal is to bring awareness to mental health and the individuals affected.

Therés has combined her business background with her art and is now heavily involving herself on the production and development side of film. Therés has trained immensely over the years studying all mediums and techniques of the business. She has trained in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Los Angeles. She has studied acting at McIlroy & Associates and most recently Therés attended the summer session at world renowned acting conservatory, Esper Studio in New York.’

Originally from Victoria BC, Therés grew up knowing the arts were her path. Therés attended every drama class, acting workshop, or theatre group she could make time for. After graduation, she attended post secondary on the opposite scale of business and sciences. After training full-time at Vancouver Acting School, Therés involved herself in modeling, hosting live fashion events and galas, to getting her firearms license, training in stunts and combat, to theatre/film production and direction.

She wrapped her work on Public Schooled, directed by Kyle Rideout, starring Judy Greer, Grace Dove, Russell Peters, and on the history of comic books series, Heroes and Villains. Therés attended the Tribeca Film Festival in New York for the screening of Sweet Virginia, the gritty thriller in which she appears with Christopher Abbott. The film also features Jon Bernthal, Imogen Poots and Rosemarie Dewitt. She recently attended the Cannes International Film Festival for film projects that she is developing and marketing.

Therés Amee is available for interviews and photos upon request.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A GROUP OF FILM SCHOOL DROP OUTS AND ONE EGO-MANIACAL DIRECTOR DECIDE TO MAKE A MOVIE, ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL SHOOTINGS?

“Shooting the Musical” to screen at the Rio Theatre June 29TH and will be released on VOD on July 14th across Canada

IndustryWorks Studios is releasing the most talked-about (or will be), controversial (definitely), laugh-out-loud (because you can’t help it) movie to come out of Canada since ‘Fubar’.

The mockumentary-style comedy “Shooting the Musical” made its first appearance to audiences at the Whistler Film festival, with rave reviews and a large following of fans that responded to the daring thematic and raw humor so rare in independent films coming out of North America, in this case, for obvious reasons.

Director Joel Ashton McCarthy, best known for his award-winning documentary Taking My Parents To Burning Man made “Shooting The Musical” with the aid of over 100 of his film school students and friends. A labor of love and a risky subject matter that may just put this indie film director on the road to success.

The premise is simple, recent film school grads resurrect a script written by their talented, fallen friend Max (Lee Shorten) as an homage to him and his adoring fans. But when the un-talented, crude, rude and completely self-absorbed Adam (Bruce Novakowski) decides to leverage the suicide of his friend for his own opportunity he re-writes the script to become a musical about a high school shooting.

The result is a comedic critic of some of societies values and its result on youth mentality. It will make you laugh out loud but it will also make you think.

Audiences loved it, proven by festival win after festival win and the recent accolade from the Toronto Film Review chosen on the awesome list of “100 best Canadian Films” by Paul Williams. On Thursday June 29th, 2017 at 9pm, IndustryWorks Studios will release the film for a Special Engagement at The Rio theatre in Vancouver. Cast and crew will be in attendance. Buy your tickets at riotheatre.ca/movie/shooting-the-musical where you can also buy a ‘super-ticket’ which includes the VOD release and download-to-own this bad boy for life.

IndustryWorks will also be releasing the movie across Canada on VOD (iTunes and Vimeo) on July 14th, 2017 (pre-buy it on July 1st, 2017).

“It is not only crude, shocking and offensive, but it is utterly and completely hilarious.” – vancitybuzz

“it’s rare that we see a project this ballsy and ambitious coming out of homegrown independent cinema” – onemovieourviews

“One of the most outrageous, offensive and laugh-out-loud comedies ever made”. – The Film Corner

Orphaned Bear Cubs Get a Second Chance in Animal Planet’s Touching New Original Canadian Series WILD BEAR RESCUE, Beginning June 23

– Filled with suspense, humour, and irresistible cuteness, the new unscripted Canadian series follows life at the Langen family’s unique B.C. wildlife shelter, where 40 black bear cub orphans are preparing for re-release into the wild –

Animal Planet’s new 12-part original Canadian series WILD BEAR RESCUE takes viewers to Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter in beautiful British Columbia, where Angelika and Peter Langen care for at-risk black bear cubs as they prepare for a second chance at life in the wild. Airing Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT beginning June 23 on Animal Planet and produced by Omnifilm Entertainment (JADE FEVER), the unique, homegrown series follows the family-run operation filled to the brim with a record 40 orphaned black bear cubs.

“We are excited to share the touching stories and genuine heroism behind WILD BEAR RESCUE,” said Ken MacDonald, Vice-President and General Manager, Discovery Networks. “Equal parts heartwarming and humorous, this series – produced exclusively for Animal Planet audiences – is sure to have viewers falling in love with the Langen family and their adorable bear cubs.”

(L-R:) Hungry cubs waiting to be fed by Angelika Langen; Langen cares for an injured black bear cub; a hungry black bear cub at feeding time.

Throughout the season, viewers witness heartwarming moments of a passionate “Mama Bear”, Angelika, and her husband Peter, who run the world’s only licensed grizzly bear rehab program. Together with their son Michael, daughter Tanja, son-in-law Shawn, and a few dedicated volunteers, WILD BEAR RESCUE captures the Langens working to save and care for the many sick, starving, and injured orphan cubs as they prepare to release them as strong and healthy yearlings in remote sites across British Columbia each year.

Black bear cubs are often orphaned when their mothers are struck by vehicles or poached by hunters, and the Langens’ home is full with more bears in their care than ever before. All 40 cubs exhibit distinct personalities and varying health needs, creating a huge challenge for the Langens to manage when the shelter becomes short-staffed and overcrowded.

WILD BEAR RESCUE is produced by Omnifilm Entertainment in association with Animal Planet. Executive Producers are Gabriela Schonbach and Michael Chechik. Series producers are David Gullason and Brad Quenville. For Animal Planet, Heather Williamson is Executive Producer. Ken MacDonald is Vice-President and General Manager, Discovery Networks. Vancouver will play host to the premiere of the Broadway musical “City of Angels” at Performance Works from July 8th – 17th

Film Noir meets the Musical starring Michael Lomenda, Donal Thoms-Cappello
Jennifer Copping, Caitlin Clugston and Crystal Balint

This summer, Vancouver will play host to Vancouver’s Premiere of the Broadway musical “City of Angels” with a limited engagement run from July 8 – 17th at Granville Island’s Performance Works. This Tony award-winning musical comedy is homage to film noir that delightfully satirizes the glamour and decadence of 1940s Hollywood.

Putting It Together (PIT) Collective, a group of local Vancouver artists, will be performing and producing the show featuring a wide variety of talent that has appeared on Broadway, in hit TV shows and feature films. They’re proud to be part of Vancouver’s global reputation as a hub of talent and creativity.

The musical “City of Angels” takes place in Los Angeles in the late 1940s. A New York crime novelist (Stine) agrees, at the behest of a Hollywood producer, to adapt his latest novel into a screenplay but how much is he willing to sacrifice for a taste of fame and fortune?  The wisecracking and quick-witted Detective Stone has a way with women but is forever haunted by the one who got away in this musical spoof of film noir crime novels and Hollywood’s treatment of writers that is smart, swingin’, sexy, and funny.

Tony award-winning “City of Angels” moves between the beautiful Technicolor world of Hollywood and Stine’s glamorous film noir-in-progress of the same title. While Stine’s movie plays out in black and white, he finds the dangerous temptations of the world of Los Angeles – the distraction of women, the lure of fame, and the artistic compromises being made right and left – all too colorful. Witty and glamorous, “City of Angels” features a sensational jazz score, including popular songs, “You Can Always Count on Me,” “Tennis Song,” and “I’m Nothing Without You.”

Actor/Producer Christopher Shyer has assembled some of Canada’s most talented artists to bring “City of Angels” to Vancouver. Chris made his Broadway debut starring in Mamma Mia, and was part of the US National touring cast of The Book of Mormon.

Award winning actor/director/singer Jennifer Copping, a genuine triple threat, will be making her Musical Directorial Debut and tackling the dual roles of the savvy leading ladies Oolie and Donna. PIT moved mountains to bring in Michael Lomenda to play Detective Stone.  Joining the cast from Los Angeles, Michael played Nick Massi in Jersey Boys on stage and also in the film directed by Clint Eastwood in 2014. Caitlin Clugston is thrilled to play the roles of Gabby and Bobbi. Donal Thoms-Cappello will play the role of Stine, the New York Crime Novelist. Janet Gigliotti, one of the Angel City 4 is also making an appearance as Sonny. Janet just completed a successful run playing Judy Garland in the Canadian premiere of “End of the Rainbow.” Crystal Balint (Mech x4) channels her feistiest femme fatale to breathe life into the roles of Alaura and Carla. Jessie nominated Paul Herbert is playing the roles of Buddy Fidler and Irwin S. Irving, Tim Perez, no stranger to the theater, joins the cast as Lt. Munoz; while Props Master John R. Taylor will be playing Luther Kingsley. And new to the Vancouver theatre scene, young actress Miranda MacDougall joins the talented cast.

Behind the scenes the creative team includes: Co-Projection/Video Designers, Corwin Ferguson and Joel Grinke; Choreographer – Ken Overbey; Musical Director – Angus Kellett, and joining Jennifer Copping as Co-Director is Sylvia M. Zaradic.

Director/Writer/Actor/Producer James Hutson nominated for Best Direction in a Motion Picture at the Leo Awards for the gritty feature film ‘Dark Harvest’

The Leo Awards will take place on June 4th at the Hyatt Hotel in Vancouver

James Hutson, the writer/director/producer and star of Dark Harvest, a gritty marijuana murder-mystery film also starring Cheech Marin, is thrilled to be nominated for Best Direction in a Motion Picture at the upcoming Leo Awards. The awards, celebrating the best in BC film and television, will take place this Sunday, June 4th at the Hyatt Hotel.

Dark Harvest is an award-winning festival circuit gem that chronicles the end of illegal marijuana and the subsequent fallout for two growers and a cop on a mission. The long list of awards received by the indie film include: Best Picture (Columbia Gorge International Film Festival, New York City Cannabis Film Festival, and Oregon Independent Film Festival), Best Dramatic Feature (Audience Choice) and Best Canadian Feature at the Edmonton International Film Festival and Best Thriller at the Oregon Independent Film Festival, to name a few.

The film is set to be released internationally on iTunes, VOD, and SVOD in Canada and the US in September, and will have a theatrical release in Vancouver, Toronto, California, Texas, Colorado and Oregon.

Hutson was inspired to write Dark Harvest while working at a former acting gig that involved acting out scenarios for the Vancouver Police Department to train new officers. While on the job, he would ask veteran cops to share stories with him. After hearing about a drug bust that went sideways, the story for Dark Harvest began to brew in the filmmakers mind. The film was then cast with an ensemble of award winning actors that bring years of experience and engaging performances to the project.

The feature stars an impressive cast, including James, Hugh Dillon, Tygh Runyan, Bernie Coulson, Alan C. Peterson and Cheech Marin.

Dark Harvest follows the struggles of two growers and a suspended narcotics officer as they deal with a series of murders on the eve of marijuana legalization. When Carter Holmes (Hutson), a veteran marijuana grower determined to retire, is robbed of a quarter million dollars worth of weed, he goes against the advice of his mentor (Cheech Marin; Up in SmokeDesperado) and seeks out a legal medical cultivation license to secure an income stream. Violent crimes, murders shrouded in mystery, and a race to find who is responsible, leads Carter to work with an unlikely partner to survive.

The movie, which takes audiences on a dramatic, 87-minute ride, was shot in Vancouver, Toronto, Cuba and Mexico.

Big Year for Actor James Clayton who appears on two Network TV shows, ‘Timeless’ & ‘The 100’, and is the lead in three features films: ‘Candiland’ ‘Residue’ and ‘Down the Line’

James will appear on CW’s ‘The 100’ in the May 17 episode, “The Chosen”

Hard work is paying off for Actor/Producer James Clayton in 2017, as he appears in two Network TV shows and is the lead in three feature films out this year. James appears in the May 17th episode of The 100 entitled ‘The Chosen’. In February, James also appeared on NBC’s Timeless as President Theodore Roosevelt. He is the first actor to play this role since Robin Williams in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb in 2014.

James stars in three feature films being released this year- CANDiLAND, Residue and Down the Line. In CANDiLAND, he plays the lead character of Peter, alongside Gary Busey (who plays Peter’s estranged father Arnie) and Chelah Horsdal (in the role of Tess, the object of Peter’s attention), in a story of intensified mutual attraction to the point of deadly obsession. James lost 55 pounds for the role dropping from 185 lbs to 130 lbs in a span of just 8 weeks. The film is available now in North America on DVD, VOD, digitally, and will appear on Netflix later this year. It is distributed by Viva Pictures and IndustyWorks Studios. Select theatrical screenings are set for this year with an ‘uncensored cut’.

CANDiLAND is the winner of a number of Film Festival Awards. James won Best Actor Award at the IndieFest Film Awards 2015 and at the Los Angeles Independent Film Awards 2016. And, as a producer, CANDiLAND won Best World Premiere 2016 Julien Dubuque.

James is also the lead in Residue, which tells the story of private investigator Luke Harding (James Clayton) who reads a book of sinister origins owned by a seedy crime lord Mr. Fairweather (Matt Frewer). Unbeknownst to Luke, the book is a much sought after supernatural artifact and Fairweather’s greatest rival, the enigmatic Mr. Lamont (William B. Davis) begins pursuit of Luke with his most truest henchmen Boston & Jacob (Costas Mandylor).

The film will be released on July 18th, 2017 by XLrator Pictures & IndustryWorks Studios in North America in select theatres, as well as on VOD, digitally, and then on to Netflix later in the year. The film went into production close after wrapping CANDiLAND, so James had to regain his weight and add muscle mass. He built himself up from the 130 lbs to 190 lbs for this film.

In an ensemble cast, James is joined by Taylor Hickson (Deadpool, Twilight Storytellers: The Mary Alice Brandon File), Costas Mandylor (Saw Franchise, The Pledge, Picket Fences), Gemini Award nominated Matt Frewer (Orphan Black, Watchman, Max Headroom), Elysia Rotaru (Arrow, Girl House, Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Blaine Anderson (Scary Movie 4, Final Destination 5, Hot Tub Time Machine) and William B. Davis (The X Files, Continuum, The Tall Man). Residue is written and directed by Rusty Nixon.

In the psychological thriller Down the Line, set to be released digitally in Canada this summer, James plays nine different lead characters. In this film, a struggling comedian (James Clayton) wakes up trapped inside his mind and must fight alternate versions of himself to escape.

Later this year, James will be acting and producing the action/thriller High Caliber. Ex-Cop Charlie Rooker wakes up chained to a time bomb in an abandoned warehouse and must assassinate five crime lords for his captor before time runs out. Using the high caliber sniper rifle provided to him, Rooker must complete his task, save his wife, and bring his captor to justice before detective Andrews tracks him down. Additional cast will be announced in July.

James’ impressive list of past credits include his appearance in two episodes of Fox TV’s Minority Report, a starring role in the caper comedy Foodland, a supporting lead role in the horror feature Adam & Evil, a lead role in the thriller feature The Bentley Box, and a project that honed his comedic skills, leading in the head-banger comedy Black Bridge. Small screen credits include appearances on the hit CW series Supernatural and Fox’s Fringe. Clayton began his acting career at the age of sixteen when he booked his first role in K19: The Widowmaker, starring Harrison Ford and directed by Kathryn Bigelow.

In addition to his successful acting career, James is a busy producer with Motorcycle Boy Productions, an independent film production company based in Vancouver, BC. He has produced CANDiLAND, Residue and Down the Line with his producing partners Rusty Nixon and Blaine Anderson. They are currently in pre-production with their fourth film, High Caliber.

James is available for interviews upon request.
